I used "turned edge applique" in my search on GW and this was the only post that seemed to really have anything close to what you are searching for. Others that have done applique may be more help.

This is the only turned edge I've done. The blocks are from Edyta Sitar's 'Hop To It'. I love the project but only did 5 blocks and can't seem to get back to working on it. Someday I'll finish it.

I used (am using) all batiks which are so tightly woven they aren't always "needle friendly" but I love the colors. For the background I used Kona Snow.

I looked at the Fat Cat site.
I tried to register to see the free patterns but my e-mail kept bouncing back.
Anyone know another way to access the free ones?

You are talking my language :-) I have done over 20 blocks of a Baltimore album quilt, but I can't seem to find one picture one my computer. All the blocks are needle turn applique. Give me a few days, and I will see if I can't get some pictures for you.
