Yes I'm concerned about size of chandelier coming too. It's larger than existing black iron but x fingers it will be ok.

Yes my lights are slightly bigger than the whole medallion. If your light coming is bigger than the black one it will be fine, thanks for complement

Yes the canopy is the round part of chandelier that attaches to the ceiling, I'm confused if using a medallion if center hole in medallion should be smaller than canopy (which means canopy will rest over the center of medallion a little) or do I have to cut center of medallion to be exact size of canopy.

I was under impression canopy has to be flush to ceiling but someone said its fine to have canopy resting a little over medallion. In my case, medallion hole is 4" and my canopy is 5", so I'd have to cut hole an inch bigger or it would rest over medallion an inch in center.

I know sounds confusing :)

That will be fine, I never cut any of my medallions, it will just sit over the centre, you won't even notice when up, let me know how you get on and send photo, it will look lovely I'm sure

They make extension rings for the junction box so that you don't have to cut the medallion. But you can't just put the medallion up without a box extension unless you cut the medallion. I wouldn't suggest cutting the medallion. Also, unless the medallion is noncombustible, pay attention to 314.25 (B).

National Electrical Code
314.20 In Wall or Ceiling.
In walls or ceilings with a surface of concrete, tile, gypsum, plaster, or other noncombus-tible material, boxes employing a flush-type cover or faceplate shall be installed so that the front edge of the box, plaster ring, extension ring, or listed extender will not be set back of the finished surface more than 6 mm (1⁄4 in.).

In walls and ceilings constructed of wood or other combustible surface material, boxes, plaster rings, extension rings, or listed extenders shall be flush with the finished surface or project therefrom.

314.21 Repairing Plaster and Drywall or Plasterboard.
Plaster, drywall, or plasterboard surfaces that are broken or incomplete around boxes employing a flush-type cover or faceplate shall be repaired so there will be no gaps or open spaces greater than 3 mm (1⁄8 in.) at the edge of the box.

314.22 Surface Extensions.
Surface extensions shall be made by mounting and mechanically securing an extension ring over the box. Equipment grounding shall be in accordance with Part VI of Article 250.

314.25
(B) Exposed Combustible Wall or Ceiling Finish. Where a luminaire canopy or pan is used, any combustible wall or ceiling finish exposed between the edge of the canopy or pan and the outlet box shall be covered with noncombustible material.

I'm curious, did you figure out your medallion? I have the same questions and I'd love to hear what happened with your chandelier. Could you update pics? I have the same PB chandelier and I'm trying to match a medallion that isn't too fussy, but still has some glam. Thanks!

Emily I'll post a few pics on Monday and see if I can find info on which medallion I bought and from where. It's simple but pretty I think. I think I should have gone a little bigger because our ceiling is 17' high and honestly I don't even notice it but with that said, I don't think it's off proportionally....it just the chandelier is the focal point and we have wallpaper too. I'll come back on Monday

Thanks! Your space looks gorgeous from the pictures above. I'm sure it's even prettier with the new chandy. I love the idea of using our chandelier as a statement piece and having the medallion add to that, but I'm having a hard time visualizing what would look grand versus looking comically oversized. Our ceilings are only 10 ft which isn't short, but I'm loving your 17ft!!

Emily I'm sorry I forgot to provide info on Monday. Here's the company I ordered from, the item info and pics. It's hard to get a photo of chandelier with medallion and room (still planning on getting new rectangular table) but hopefully this helps a little. I could have gone with a bit larger medallion but didn't want overkill.
The ceiling is painted a lighter version of hallway so there's a contrast with white medallion

Hello, I have a flush mount ceiling fan that I woils like to place on top of a ceiling medallion. I have a breakfast nook with an 8 foot ceiling. The housing of the fan that will come into contact with the ceiling and mount flush is 9.9in in diameter. Trying to find a medallion with that size opening is not easy? Any suggestions on a medallion size and where I would find one! Thank you so very much!
