Our new home!

Just about to take possession of my new place. Suck at designing or decorations. I'd love any suggestions for our main room here. We need to fit our family room a desk and a kitchen table. Any ideas will be appreciated!

In the first pic, how many hours per day those big windows get full or even partial Sun ? I ask because i see a small atrium there. I'm a newbie to plants, but i notice that a lot of plants only require about 4 hours of full Sun

Love the fireplace and window...I'd consider adding skylight or tube for more natural light. Also consult a good lighting designer...but I'm also a bright and cheery person

Can you get a pic from the fireplace looking at the rest of the room?

I'm not sure what furniture style you like but I'm getting a mid century modern feel from it. Give us an idea of what you like.

Thanks for all the suggestions! So basically I'm thinking of mounting the TV on the wall to save space on the window side and putting a sofa against the balcony railing leading downstairs. I think this home had a cabin feel so I want to decorate it like a modern cabin/rustic look. The entire upstairs area is about 500 sqft. I really like the plant idea by the window! I want to keep the window area as open as possible to get maximum light. Eventually want to convert the fireplace to gas but right now it is wood burning. I'd love to have a table with folding chairs so I don't have to have it out all the time. It's just me and my husband so we are more then happy to eat at the counter. We will be getting some barstools for the long counter

    Hi,
Congrats on your new home from ShutterShack.com
I take the liberty of super imposing Custom Interior Shutters on many images on Houzz.
After viewing my snap shot of ShutterShack.com Custom Interior Plantation Shutters on your windows, even I was impressed as to how much the Shutters added to your room!

I think I would mount the tv over the fireplace, and then put a sofa or sectional facing it. A small accent chair and side table along the narrow windows I'd create a small conversation space behind that, maybe with 2 chairs and a table, that faces the opposite direction. I'd put the desk opposite the stairs, and then the dining table (or possibly a banquette) under the chandelier.

I love, love, love modern rustic! I'll hunt out some pics to hopefully inspire you! Good luck putting this space together. It's got great potential, and I'm sure you'll make it sing!

Not sure this is the modern rustic feel you have in mind, but it sure is beautiful. Look at all the pics of this house. There are many rustic components throughout.
