The closest category to place my 1929 house under would be "Dutch Colonial" due to its gambrel roof (barn-shaped). Overall, it's a quirky house with a lot of character. My personal interior decor taste falls more within the MCM or Modern Industrial realm, and my furniture is more within that style (with a bit of quirk thrown in).

My dilemma is this: My drafty old house does not have a fireplace, and I have been lusting after MCM metal fireplaces for years. I recently acquired a lovely vintage PreWay, and have started planning the installation of it. Issue is this: am I compromising the style of the house by installing a permanent Mid-Century Modern fireplace into an otherwise 1929 Dutch Colonial? It makes sense with my own decor and furniture, but I don't want it to "ruin" the house for potential buyers when I put it on the market in a few years or so.
