Updated Transitional Kitchen

I was not a fan of the stained oak cabinets and granite tile counters and back splash in my 1999 kitchen. The previous owner had clad the bar front with heavy Colorado stone that didn't fit in with my cleaner transitional style. Over the course of three years I updated the flooring, replaced the appliances and completely changed the look of the kitchen.

I liked it very much. I liked the use of natural material and neutral colors. The wood floors and the natural stone provide a warm and comfy feeling. The gray cabinets are wonderful. I particularly liked that you stained / painted it in a way that one can still see the grain. Kitchen area seems to compliment the other parts of the house. Well done!!

Lighter color counters are really much easier to cook on because you can see what you are doing better.

Melinda161 - The wastebasket goes in the pantry when I'm entertaining, but not practical for everyday use. No cabinet to put it in.
The cabinets are painted with Sherwin Williams Gauntlet Gray with a custom light gray glaze.

Great changes - love the color of the new kitchen!! Well done! As far as the trash can, leave it where its at. I have had several under the counter and the type that pulls out in a cabinet, its much better to have it where you placed it.

Keep the upper cabinets that were replaced above the fridge. I have had to replace a fridge where the new one wouldnt fit with the lower cabinets. Save the old ones, so you dont hve to have a new box made if you change fridges.

Wow, that's great and I love the addition of the new stone. Looks brighter and more welcoming. Nice change with the color of the cabinets. It all looks good. :) Good luck and enjoy! :)

look very nice .. love the color change .. but ive never been a fan of cooking on a small island .. too many ops for accidents

I love everything about the make over down to the new updated hardware. Call me old fashioned, but I really love the natural color of oak and the grey finish covered the true beauty of the wood. I would have just refinished it with with a clear finish to freshen it up. This is akin to painting beautiful oak floors.

This is the best before and after I've seen on Houzz! One tiny recommendation that you might appreciate. Look for this Simple Human trash can. Has a butterfly lid that completely hides the plastic bag.
