My den is huge: 24 x 40. Flooring is a brick with dark grey grout. Walls are paneled. Fireplace on one end of room with built-ins on either side. Ceiling is white with dark wood beams down center of vaulted ceiling and also running across the ceiling in several places. I just need to lighten it up. I want to paint the paneling a light gray and the built-ins a white. There is crown molding around the top that matches the beams. I'm stuck. Do I leave the ceiling white or change it to a lighter gray? Do I paint the crown molding and beams, or leave them the dark? (Window molding is also the dark.) If I paint the molding and beams, do I just go with the white that I use on the built-ins? Do I paint the fireplace? If so, what color? Lots of questions, but I need help!
