I have navy pillows on my bed that coordinate with the chairs.

Agree, retrogirl73 that the bed needs to stay on the wall with the windows. I guess it's a personal preference, but I like walking in a room and seeing the bed...I like it to be on the focal wall as you have it. Have you thought about adding curtains on the windows? That might soften that wall and make it look less busy as someone mentioned.

Thanks for the input @Karen Dumont. I don't like how busy that wall is with the windows and the bed, but it's the most logical place for the bed to go considering how the room is laid out. I have NO idea what to do as far as curtains on the window. What are some possibilites? : )

I think an off white or white shag would look great in your room and would make it feel warm and cozy. West Elm and Pottery Barn have great selections. Love the 2nd picture that Deconenthusiaste posted- looks like a sheep skin rug...

Choose one mirror as each piece now has a mirror over it........the round one would be the one I would choose to stay.

retrogirl-why don't you do the same panels that you have on the other window-simple white cotton ones? This way all the windows will match.

a nice large, shag rug as mentioned.
paint the furniture a chalk paint gray
add the same curtains around the room.
add a bench at the end of the bed, this will help ground the chandelier as well
mix the two mirrors and frames over the seating area wall in a collage format.
get your self a more full comforter and a throw for the bed.
add two shabby-ish style lamps to the room and a reading lamp to the seating side
add a little foot stool or to the seating side.
the end tables dont bother me.

If it wasn't too much trouble, I would try the bed on the other wall..in a few minutes you would know if there wasn't a better arrangement. I would move the chest to the wall to the right of the drapery and make the window area a true sitting area (and focal point). Add a small table in between the chairs and some art above, plus a rug to define the space. I might try the round mirror over the dresser and prints above the chest. houzz=];[houzz=]

It's a beautiful room. I love those chairs but they seem to be just floating. How will you use them? Can you put one of the closer to the corner and add a standing lamp to create a reading nook?
Also, I would put a large piece of artwork with turquoise, grey, black and maybe a touch of coral/orange over that dresser. It looks like something with height is needed to provide more coverage on the blank wall.

Maybe paint the bed black. Everything seems in the same color . That may jazz it up.

great start! please consider raising all the mirrors. finally what about moving the seating group to on side of the wall and the dresser to another. there is a lot of empty space that can be filled by creating two groups without purchasing a lot of new pieces.

In the photo the chandelier looks misplaced. It may be right if the bed was moved to the dresser wall. A few bigger accessories usually look better than several small. That interesting mirror will look great hung on one of the walls, not too high. Change the carpet to something soft in one or more of your colours. Art pieces that you love always work, don't buy for a colour. Great start with the bedding.

I like the colors too, but I thought it was more brown tone than gray on my monitor – either way works. Small accessories easily become a cluttered look. Regarding the night stands over the registers – buy longer legged night stands. You have two round mirrors and a round clock. Let’s vary that for more interest. Yes you need to hang the mirror above the cabinet. Yes, you need the two front legs of each piece of furniture on the rug. Replace every 3 dinky knick knacks with a large one that you can see the detail half way across the room.

I would paint the walls the color green of that small ornate frame in photo and the corner wall where clock one hangs find a whimsical print of your state bird: the loon!

Thanks for all the input everyone! I'm still on the search for a rug. Although I think a white rug would match the decor well, I'd like to add something that has some color. Something like in pic, except not in yellow. Suggestions? Oh and by the way...my chairs are navy, not black. : ) They must be coming across as black in the pics I posted.

So many great suggestions! I too love the airy feel but feel the room could use just a few deeper tones to highlight the pieces. Here are a few suggestions I have:
- like you, I too like the bed located between the windows.
- agree with several others that the dresser moved to the wall that the chairs are currently on would be far better.
- would like a few larger elements in a deeper tone. Like a couple of Navy or coral vases...say roughly 20-24" tall on one side and rustic or dark lantern on the other side.
- move the two chairs to the foot of the bed with the small cross leg table between them with a small coral vase or something pretty that offsets the white.
- I'd put two fuzzy, Mongolian fur pillows on them, to soften the pattern. Or drape a white faux fur throw over one and a fuzzy pillow on the other.
- I agree with putting the same curtains on the windows flanking the bed. But I would just do one panel on each side (away from the bed of course.)
- I agree night stands that have legs that are approx. same height as the bed and are at least 24" wide would work nicely. Matching, sheer mercury glass lamps would be pretty too. Lacquer white.
- on the wall the dresser is currently on my first choice would be a mirror framed large floor length mirror. You can buy these at all price points. If you don't like that idea I would move the cabinet to that wall with the round mirror hanging over it. Put something near the bottom of the mirror that slightly tips it up to get the reflection of the chandelier. Which is gorgeous!!
- as for the rug. Definately needs to be much larger. If you put a bench or the chairs at the foot of the bed it may need to be larger than 8x10'. The room looks pretty big. A pale, overdyed oriental gray, navy or teal that is very faded would be pretty.
-over the bed doesn't seem contrasted enough. I would hang a bold piece of art or a grouping of pictures hanging within a large frame. Frame painted glossy white and deep charcoal behind the grouping within the frame ( paint used to look like a mat.). Or paint just that wall charcoal and hang a white element over it that has interesting lines.

It looks like you need to get some height in the room. A tall lamp on the chest is an easy way to start. You can "build" the wall over the small chest by hanging the mirror and grouping some artwork and/or shelves over it. It looks like you have enough space on the side of the bed to put the chairs together, perhaps with a small table in between. Good luck and Happy Decorating!

We would put the mirror elsewhere and go for a large scale painting over the sideboard.
Bigger rug and accent solid color small, say 10" x 10" pillows on the chairs too.

Nice room. I would do a large mirror leaning against the wall, it's useful and you need a big grand piece.

Love the slipper chairs! But they are a bit 'loud' - to break it up a bit add a couple of small rectangle (teal?) pillows, and save the throw for the bed. Also, hang the mirror in a usable height but on the higher- side to add height rather than propping it up... and I like the idea of a taller lamp for some height and I always love (faux) greenery - in this case grasses because of your decor. Have fun with this, if you love it, then it's right!!!

so many great ideas, and repeats of the same ideas. I am repeating some of them as well.

First I would REMOVE the things that aren't in sync with the basic theme. The brass clock and the double circle in the corner between the 2 doors. The tan rug. The lamp on the dresser is going I assume. Also the painting without a frame seems out of place. Maybe framing it or not putting it next to a framed b&w piece.
Paint the wall behind the bed a dark or bright color. sheer light curtains if you like that look. I agree to pull one panel to the outside corner.

what about putting the two chairs together with a floor lamp and a small table. Or a table with a lamp on it. Take care with proportions.

don't try to spread everything out to take up space. think of groupings of pieces with negative space in between. dresser too big for space between doors.

love the teal agree coral would be a nice secondary accent. Try to have different amounts of each color so it is obvious which is main color, and each accent color.

I'm not sure about the round mirror, but I would definitely hang it, and it you had a pair of tall stick lamps on each side of it, and some greenery in front or to each side to soften the edges, it wouldn't be so bold. Also try hanging it with the the wider part at the top. It will be higher and draw the eye up.

What color are the walls? I would like to see a bit more contrast in dark/light between the furniture and the walls. Also, are they both warm tones or cool tones or one of each. It is hard to work with warm and. cool together in one space.

I forgot to suggest placing the chairs where they have a purpose. I agree with nightstands on each side - they don't have to be identical. You could put one of the chairs in front of the window on the right of the bed, and a lamp on the nightstand would give you a place to sit and read, or for getting dressed. the other chair could go across the room near the dresser if you swap the two chests.

Another idea since you have a lot of space would be to put the two chairs at the foot of the bed with a small table and a larger rug like others suggested under the bed.

Add a tall indoor tree to the corner and stagger two pictures on the other side, maybe a garden stool by one of the chairs.

I think I would jazz it up a bit by adding some color to just that one wall. I'd pick a coordinating color and would paint just that one wall an eye-catching color----perhaps a turquoise or light aqua color since you seem to like that color. If that doesn't appeal to you, perhaps one huge painting with coordinating colors hanging above the dresser or even a very large mirror. Maybe even some sconces on either side of the mirror would be a nice touch. Maybe you could try taking some black and white photos of your family or pets or things you love and frame them. Then arrange them on that wall. Hope you find something that works for you. Let us see how it turns out. Good luck!

Why is there a wall clock in the bedroom? And such a mundane one at that?

I think the walls look bare - I would get more artwork. Also a large palm would be lovely in the corner behind the seating area. Whenever I see a room that looks "staged" that's why - it is missing art/color and plants.

I would also hang that silver mirror and add some more texture and color to the bed.

Wall sconces would look great on each side of the mirror.....place battery-operated candles with timers in them for ambiance. Greenery always adds a nice touch....I'd place a tree in the right corner.

I would prop a large vertical mirror on the floor next to the small dresser. This will add dimension and make the room look larger,

I think tuly8888 is onto a good idea and you can achieve it pretty easily with an accent wall or art piece. Here are some ideas below. Your chair pattern, btw, is very similar to the Libby Langdon Groovy Gate reusable wallcovering, which happens to be on sale this month along with Lively Lattice. It would be too much pattern for the entire wall but could be a thought for an art accent or even bookcase backing for a built-in bookshelf for the right side wall. You can see in this first image how it was used with similar patterned chairs as yours. You can also always remove and reuse elsewhere. Painted or Abstract artwork or even one of your enlarged photos would also be nice for a main wall decorative accent.

Larger area run, turn the chairs around so they face the wall (no need to stare at the bed when sitting in the chairs) put your favorite large piece of art on the wall and a small side table between chairs. This way you can look at art if you choose to sit in the chairs and are able to put a cup of tea or coffee on the side table to make it more comfortable.

I'd move the bed to the opposite wall. It looks already looks busy and by the time you get bedside stands you're really going to have a lot going on. I see the problem with the vents there as well. That would solve the vent/bedside stand problem. The cool thing is that the window wall would make a great reading nook with the slipper chairs and smaller chest under the middle window. There's lots of natural light there. You could add a large art print or black and white photo grouping, or the circular mirror under the middle window to bring things down to earth. Add a small table between the chairs or a hassock with a navy colored tray…some books. Back to the bed…If you sew, add a tightly gathered navy skirt around the bed on the inside of the white frame. Your starfish pillows are great. I'd remove the white ruffled pillow so you can see them. (and I'm a pillow person.) Love the large rug idea too and a navy or turquoise cover folded at the foot of the bed. If you move the bed you can add the larger night stands and lamps. If you you decide to leave the bed on the window wall there consider using larger tables as bedside stands so you don't block the vents. I've also seen "floating" bedside stands and will try to find a picture to post here. You have a beautiful room! I know it's going to be great.

Not sure what kind of art you enjoy but I wonder if this piece may work for your space, the subject matter seems to be appropriate for the bedroom and the main color there is navy blue.

I like the rug, you should tape out 7x10 in painters tape to see if its a good size for you.

How about if you put a big frame around the mirror and maybe with a black or white lacquer finish, you might also want to put up some pictures on your walls or maybe have a little round table right next to your chairs. I like the idea of a reading corner in the empty corner. In the reading corner you could have a lounge chair in a bold Aqua and maybe put a bookshelf there to put your books in.

Try filling the wall behind the chairs with a collection of eclectic mirrors, and put a large sculpture or tree in the corner.
