What type of wood surrounds this sink? And, what seals it to not stain?

You are only seeing the top of what is an antique English dresser that we retrofit to hold a 30" undermount sink in a French Country laundry room. The piece is pine and we used a mat polyurethane to seal it. We used an English Briwax on the bottom section of the dresser as I typically dislike the look of any polyurethane on an antique piece but that is not sufficient to seal the top.
