Bedroom help needed please

Bought new nightstand, mercury glass lamps... trying for an industrial chic look but seems to be blah. Hung the 3 mirrors above bed. look bad? Bedding needs something, I don't no what? Linen duvet from restoration hardware, expensive hate not to use it. Any suggestions to make it look better? Sorry about lighting , is dark and have been working on it.

The first one would work for height, IMO, the second one is too tall.

I like them both! I'm leaning the second one because of the juxtaposition of the glam (and black shade) against the concrete wall look you want. It will be more "eclectic" though. I do like the tripod lamp too but I wonder if the legs of the lamp will be too close to the edge of the side table??

worried about height of 2nd lamp, like Nancy said... it's 34" , the lamps I have pictured now are 33,5"? I love it, wish it would work.

I think you might be right Darcy about 1sr one width of bottom legs on table, will have to measure.

Could you do a mock up out of cardboard that is 34" tall just to see? Somehow with the base being so "strong", it looks like that might balance out the height unlike the buffet lamps.

great idea! will try that tonight... thank you for the idea.

How is the room coming along, Julie?

    Hi indomom,

I've got lamps ordered. They won't be in until the first week of March. I'm meeting with the designer/painter on the 27th to look at samples she's doing for the wall behind the bed as well as paint colors for the bedroom. I'm ordering a new ceiling light, in search of a rug that will add more layering and texture.

I also bought two canvas and some acrylic paint so that I can do a couple of paintings to incorporate the room colors........ (if this falls through, I will be buying art work lol) Wanted to contribute something to the room I created :)

Once I get some things done, I will be excited to post some photos to show you!! Thank you so much for asking!

You've been busy! Can't wait to see it all come together--especially the "concrete" wall :)

First of all I will suggest the change in the wall colour.the grey colour is making your bedroom look dead:)
To make it alive try adding wall paper or just a border whatever you wish.if u want to paint it only try a beige colour.add your rug,in corner put a vase(it can be empty or dry flowersorbranches only)
Above the bed add 3 frames same level.n finally On your bed add someCushions .

Thank you youshreena. I am getting things lined up to repaint the room. I totally agree, it looks horrid with that paint color!

We are doing a cement looking wall behind the bed and will paint the rest of the room to tie everything together.. curtains, duvet cover I hope. I have new lamps on order and trying to figure out which way to go with a rug for layering over the carpet to give more texture to the room. Dark rug or Moroccan style rug w/ a little pattern.

Also, searching for pillows but trying to figure out rug to know what pillows to go for....

Still not sure about the dresser, if I should take out of the room or wait and see if it all ties in after it's all put together.

Definitely paint the white vent cover, any electrical wall plates and light switch plates the same color as the wall! Instead of flat that is generally used in walls, get your wall color mixed in satin to paint the plates with. That makes it easier to wipe off dust and damp wipe fingerprints. This will make a big difference. We always do this in every room in our house.

hard to see but the lamps and photos are very small and delicate which doesn't work with the more rugged bed and tables. Lamps should be bigger and bolder

Can't wait to see the lamps and the wallpaper and wall paint....

I ordered a pair of the lamp pictured. The lamps that are in the picture now are being returned. I just haven't received the new lamps yet. I also agree to paint the vent covers, light panels or I was thinking possibly buy new ones in some sore of metal look design?

nice bling! take out the vent. paper it out side, cut the openings. put right back. Nice choices so far!!!

Great idea sacapuntaslapioz, thank you. Waitng on the designer to meet on the 27th for the cement wall and paint. Carpet keeps throwing me off the most, someday will put hardwood floors in our upstairs too :)!

Thinking of ordering this light for the ceiling.. Do you think too industrial or should be more bling because of the lamps?

Also, thinking this rug in and 8 x 10. I'm afraid a dark rug may be too much contrast with the cream carpet? Just not sure if I should go killim style rug for texture because this is more shag...

Wall behind the bed will be something like this ... ok so that photo went on top :)

I like that ceiling fixture, but does it come in brushed nickel?

It comes in Satin Nickel, would that be better?

Not sure that would be your best choice. maybe another one?

this one has a industrially thing but also some glam.

I would wait for the rug until you got the walls done. it might look just fine.

    Jlodyer thanked sacapuntaslapioz

I really love the one w/ the black shade and bling would tie in well with my lamps and still very structured! Might be best to wait on rug, would hate to have to return a rug.

that is what I thought Very nice. The cement walls will change the look a lot.

    Jlodyer thanked sacapuntaslapioz

Yes, that is so true. I think it's why I keep hesitating on purchases for rug, pillows and still contemplating something else for the end of the bed. The black trunk (as much as I love it) basically blends in and really isn't anything special. Was thinking possibly a tufted ottoman, just not sure if it suits the rest of the design. I think I'm just all over the place. I thought I was industrial glam but seems more rustic chic, I don't know!

Wait for the walls. Things will look very different. You might find you need different items or nothing at all

Got the lamps today, very pretty but thinking now I need nightstands that are more substantial? Waiting on date to have wall done, room painted.. moving along slowly. I did change out the knows on dresser gave it a little more sparkle, think it fits in better now.

    The lamps are absolutely beautiful!!!

    thank you abbyjean :)

do you think I need to go with more traditional nightstands now with the lamps these look too small?

Great lamps and good call on blinging out the knobs! Yes, I'm thinking more substantial nightstands to respect those lamps :)

    Jlodyer thanked indomom

Thing is, I really like these night stands. And I like how they are the same height to balance out the height of the lamps, but yet different. I like how they are unique and industrial and YOU! Your decor on them fit the style you want in your room. Do the lamps feels safe on them? Are you afraid of knocking them off since they are close to the edge, or is there still room for the base of the lamp with no worries?

On the look for nightstands, should the nightstands still be different, just same scale?

I have one nightstand that matches the dresser but it's the wood tone too so I'm afraid it's too country looking. Not sure changing out the knobs on it would help out.

The lamps fit fine on them. The one to the left of the bed is a bit shorter and not as substantial as the one to the right of the bed. Maybe, just the one nightstand should be changed then....

Does the one that matches the dresser correspond in height with one of the current ones? The dresser would could go on the far side of the bed and draw that color over there and then the solid black numbered one.....love that one...could go by the door? Worth a try?

    Jlodyer thanked abbyjean

What if you try the nightstand that matches the dresser on the right side of the bed and move the other to the left? You might even consider having your painter give the wooden nightstand a more "industrial" look.

    Jlodyer thanked indomom

Ha! Crossed posts with you abbyjean!

Great minds, indomom! Hope she tries it so we can see if we were right!

I was thinking maybe could put on right side as you sugges.. I just did a fast chanel up on left side to show that nightstand. .. I could paint it black and order same knows for it as well?

Might be a little shorter than the one on the right as the other one was, sorry for typos that was on my phone and auto correct :) I can put on right side now if that will help? I was trying to do a fast switch!

That's a pretty significant height difference, I'm afraid. What do you think?

ok, try all the way so for sure

Yeah, the one of the left is 31.5" and right is 28"

A short term remedy until you find something perfect might be a 3.5" stack of books under the right lamp. I think since you are going for the matched set it is important for the lamps to be the same height.

Yeah, I really feel the brown on that one even if painted isn't working. I wanted mis-matched but if I could find something at the same height of the other one that might work, or would it look more professional if the nightstands are a matching set?

    Maybe something like this?

Oh, that one is very interesting! How tall is it? I think it's personal taste as to whether you want them matching or not. I personally like a little variety if you can get something the same height as the 31.5" one. But I think the one above matches the look you're going for.

yes, goes nice with bed nice... it's 30" height so may have to go with pair

Big fan of Industrial Style. Love the room!

Hi indomom, I'm anxiously awaiting a sample board from the interior design person that's going to do the wall. She's been busy so it's slowed down my process. Not sure I'll even get the rooms painted until April. I'm ready to break out the paint myself LOL (I'm just a slob at it !! ) Also, not sure we are on same page so waiting to see what she comes up with... she is thinking to have it look like large cement blocks staggered and use nailheads to give it more a industrial feel. I just have to wait and see. I was thinking more like large concrete wall with texture (not really block or brick look).

I did talk to another local interior designer and she suggested I should use sheet metal versus trying to create a cement wall look so that made me start questioning myself. I'm still waiting though to see what the sample looks like from the first designer...

Also, the nightstands won't be in until sometime around May 20th, unless I go with something else to get it sooner. This is not going to be a quick process, unfortunately.

Thank you El Dorado Furniture, it has a long way to go !!!

It's not a quick project, for sure, but it will be so fun once it's tweaked perfectly for you and yours!
