Are you thinking about taking the walkway out between the kitchen and the dining room where it says "1.7"?

Looking at the enlarged plan-- you could move the door to living/dining room right next to the fireplace - turn the refrigerator back against the dining room wall leaving easy access and the circular flow but making the traffic avoid the kitchen proper. Hope that makes sense

I would think about what your goals are for the space before you make any changes. What are the problems that you are trying to solve?
Perhaps the closet next to the fireplace could be turned into attractive built ins. The location of the refrigerator and island looks problematic to me.

It would be very interesting to hear from you what your goals are........I totally agree with the previous comment from pam......don't make changes until you understand what your goals are.

From the floor plans that you have posted, I don't see any reason to spend money on the changes that you are suggesting. However, once you have explained what it is that you are trying to acheive, there might be some good suggestions ......
