I like the darker shingles.
They look classy and more substantial.
All I can suggest is a few artfully placed shrubs.

Yup Paula, i was thinking the same thing. I would take out the brick that lines driveway and place plants on both sides of the driveway. For the plants i would go with evergreens like holly (both female & male types so get red berries). In the warm months plant colorful annuls between the holly's

Yah exactly! I agree. Maybe some bushes up by the front too.

Keep the brick lining the driveway & do the things that Curt suggested with the plantings. I would try to change up the furnishings located at your entry area. If your climate allows I would plant a Japanese maple in the yard in front of the right (white) portion of the house. In any case you do need a medium size specimen tree planted there.

It is a lovely home just a few changes needed, I think.

I vote to keep the brick along the driveway.
Paint the siding a little darker and the freshen trim white. You want the brick, siding, and trim to look "sharp."
Paint the storm door the same color of the front door. This will enlarge the presence of the front door.
Remove the shutters and replace the light fixture with a more substantial one, keep it black.

The home is lovely. I wouldn't change the roof. Maybe update the siding and landscaping. Allot of individuals are trying to achieve the look you have in new homes. I think "sprucing it up" would do the trick without making major changes.

We spent a week adding the brick to the driveway. We thought it would look great plus it would widen the drive as people kept driving off the drive onto the grass.

Is there anything that can be done to the brick to spruce it up? The dark color has sort of oxidized over the years. Pressure wash it maybe?

brick lining the driveway looks great. Brick looks great. maybe add some landscaping. if your wood siding is white I would paint it in a different color. and yes I would also refresh the white.

It's grey and white metal siding. Can it be painted and keep the colors the same??

Not sure your budget or how much of a change you are looking for. But, you could emphasize the modern aspects of your home. The roof line, dark brick and the side windows are quite modern. The picture widow is less modern with its mullions and shutters.

You could remove the shutters, and perhaps some of the picture window mullions are removable. Dark brick is often paired with unpainted wood in modern homes - you could replace the white siding with wood for a totally different look.

Then landscape with tall grasses.

Totally agree with sandradclark on the Japanese maple...they're gorgeous!

That brick must have been hours of backbreaking work! I like it. Have you considered changing the sidewalk? Maybe work the bricks in, at least by continuing them across the front of it? And paint your bench black if it is not already and change the fabric. Something with black, gray, red?

Remove the shutters, will play up the mid century modern look! Low growing junipers would give you green all year!
