This is the European line that has finally made it to US/Canada. Nothing "new" for those of us who have lived on the Continent. New to N. America...but other than that this is the standard Ikea line-up...which I prefer.

Is it a better system than the other styles they offered prior to this? What do you see as the pros and cons

I am planning mine right now. There are now too many options! I am a Libra and weigh every little item and there are so many options now I am going crazy! LOL!

I am the same way, although not a Libra. Does anyone have pictures and prices of a kitchen they have created using this new system? It looked to me like there were less options for draw fronts using this system and many of them appeared more traditional than the lacquer modern theme they had before.

It just came out so not likely someone is going to have a full price on a finished kitchen yet. I feel like there are fewer options on drawer fronts, but there are a lot of hidden drawer type configurations. They do have some brightly colored laquered finish doors too, plus the gray and white too I believe.

I do wish they had the laxarby in white.

Another libra here! I'm in the middle of my ikea kitchen remodel with sektion cabinets right now.

I'm using Ringhult high gloss white doors, approx. 23 cabinets and about 25 of those drawer inside a drawer combos. Included in the 23 are 3 large pantry cabinets (24x90). All of my upper cabinets (10) are horizontal wall cabinets. Blankett handles for most, might use ornas handle for pantry. Cabinet material cost was about $8k after the 20%off.

My ikea cabinet installer said the new cabinets take longer to customize due to metal fasteners and they commented about ikea giving too many drawer choices making their job harder (they said I had too many for the size of my kitchen) but to me, that's just maximizing space as I have a small kitchen. They thought it was going to take 4 days but it took 6 days to demo and install. They were really nice about it and made sure I didn't install drawers where it didn't make sense so I can just return them.

So far so good!

Hi Krazy. Good luck with your kitchen, and post pics! It sounds like you have a ton of cabinets! I did mostly drawers also. I would say they have to many drawer combination options, but only cause it made it harder to decide!! It only took about 3 days for us to install all of our cabinets. For first timers and DH being back at work, I would say we did pretty good! Here it is so far. We have lots of trim work to do this weekend. In reference to the post above asking about cost, I bought mine during the sale, and got 20% off. I bought the cabinets, countertops and sink from Ikea and it came to about $4500 after the discount. Not including handles, stools, etc.

Wow, that's a great price, love all of your choices and I love me some black and white checkerboard on the floor. I would've done that except I love my walnut hardwood floors. Our home schedule is irregular so diy is hard, but mostly I just didn't have the guts to install the cabinets ourselves. Seemed so daunting when my two crates were delivered from ikea. I admire those that do tho. I will post pics when I'm done~

I find the selection at an Ikea location is much greater than those on-line. The Eupopean line (available in Germany) allows high-gloss yellow, red, etc for the Sektion kitchens. I even remember seeing "Dutch Orange" which sold out instantaneously in the Netherlands.

I can find 20-30 different counter tops at my local Ikea...yet online only has a fraction of what they carry. My guess is that the US/Canada selection will fill-out over time. Give it 2-3 years before you start seeing some of the really "fun" stuff.

Europe is into "pop" culture colours (think Andy Warhol prints) which we aren't used to seeing over here. It takes time. And let's face it. Ikea is Swedish = Scandinavian Modern is their "sweet spot" when it comes to design. That doesn't always fly on this side of the pond.

^^^This all may be true, but I would think IKEA wants to make as much money as possible on this side of the pond as well, and to that end they would be even more successful if they offered the white/shaker option that is both timeless and "in" right now. Not just the plastic-y version (like Grimslov), but a more wood-y option, such as the Laxarby or Bjorket. I find it amazing that you can get a high gloss grey or a nearly pitch black without also having a simple, classic white choice. I suspect it may come in a future iteration of these lines. My husband will certainly be relieved to hear that I am willing to wait a bit longer!

I'd be amazed if they don't bring in laxarby in whiite. Here in the UK laxarby is available in white although it wasn't initially when they first brought in the new system.

I have it in my kitchen (although using the old system) its a great kitchen with wooden doors so very versatile.

Yep...each market (even the UK got a different line-up from Germany) has its own "time line" for things. Ikea is no different that way than from Vauxhall/Opel/Chevy. My Canadian friends don't believe me when I tell them FIAT has more than a dozen different cars (17 available in Germany)...and yet all we got was the "500".

You should SEE the Panda 4x4...funky! That goes to show how each country/market gets a slightly different line up. Give it time. Ikea will get it in. You may have to wait a while longer.

really the only differences are: everything went up in price a lot, the cabinets are a few cms deeper, Brown interiors are now an option, they've integrated some of their bathroom accessories into the kitchen.

I've remodelled several houses fully with Ikea. I know almost every product they carry, and I think they brought out the sektion line just so they could hike up the price.

even the doors are not new. 95% of them they just renamed and increased the price on.

I hoped for black or at least black-brown cabinets as I've seen in the Metod line in Europe, instead we get UGLY brown cabs stateside. Ughh.

Also, the Metod cabinet sizes allow the cabs to be used like toy building blocks, very different from the old Faktum, but the only major differences between Sektion and Akurum are the drawers within drawers, drawer sides and dividers that prevent items from falling out, the hanging rails for the base cabs and the increased depth of the wall cabinets.

I have to say, I really do like the new drawer options. I prefer an uncluttered look in a row of cabinets. So I'm planning to go with just 2 regular drawers per cab, which will allow me to store tall items in one drawer while the drawer next to it can hold 2 extra inside drawers that hold tons of shorter items, all the while keeping a uniform look.

I do hope that over the next year or two, Ikea will offer more door finishes and more choices such as doors with integrated handles or cut-out handles etc.
