A chest to the right as you enter. Above this get a good gilt framed original oil painting (possible an impressionist style or a still life/landscape would be good. Or you could move the Demi-lune console you already have and put the chest in it's place. You have to get an area rug something that will tie in the colors of the adjoining rooms. Add some picture frame molding below the chair rail. This will give more detail and add to the traditional feel. Move the secretary chest closer to the stairs and put a small chair between it and the corner. This will give you a place to sit and remove shoes or such things. That will be a good start. when that is done post again and we can go from there. Good luck!

@houssaon you beat me to the post. I was still writing. I'm glad to see we have some similar ideas. I like the advise you give it is always insightful.

Add some wainscot or shadow boxes under your chair rail in your foyer and up your stairway... This would look great in your space.

You seem to have a lot of room. I don't know how much of that furniture I would keep. I would add some entry way seating and a round table which could hold flowers. Personally, I'm dying for an entry way large enough for a round table that can hold fresh flowers. I'd replace what you have there, moving those pieces somewhere else in the home. I'd also install a beautiful chandelier of your choice.

The secretary is lovely but I think I would try to find another location for it and put an upholstered bench or chair and table there. Light blue upholstery or some color out of the carpeting would be nice. Not tan! I would also paint the lower wall or just the inside of the molding (mentioned above) light blue too.

I would put a mirror somewhere in that space, for practical as well as decorative purposes. An antique pier mirror would suit the decor, I think. And definitely a small bench, either below the mirror or elsewhere near the door. (This is especially useful if you live in a climate where it's customary to remove your shoes when you enter the house.) Some pier mirrors and benches have storage below--a good place for gloves, hats, etc.

Move demilune table and painting to the left side of the door.. Move secretary where it was and get a round table to put beside the stairs. With a tall flower filled vase in the center of it. Add a beautiful hanging chandelier in the foyer entrance with a beautiful rug. These would look great with your stair runner
