It depends on your location and your habitat. Typically most bulbs, if happy, will thrive and multiply. If your bulbs aren't happy, then obviously the show declines.
Any answers you get are going to be analogous to 'what bulbs are easy to grow'. Basically, the only real answer is...'does it do well for you'.

New England, Zone 6, partial shade and root competition. Thin layer of good soil over sand and gravel.

There are some bulbs that typically DON'T improve in most US locations. Most hybrid tulips, for instance.
