should I prune this off????

Should I prune this? I wouldnt even ask if it were not the leader. But it is. I think it could be sunscald because its on the part that is most exposed but its also the only spot on the whole tree. It would disfigure the tree to remove it but I also want to err on the safe side because it is on a side of the property where all my JMs.are healthy so I dont want to put the other jms at risk.At the same time I dont want to be hasty and disfigure the tree if its nothing to worry about. The part that worries me is the blackish spots. HELP!
