Is that the orchid that was in the basket and overflowing with blooms? If so, the photo was very impressive! I wish pictures were scratch n sniff... I would love to know what those gorgeous blooms smell like!

They are amazing! Mine isn't as large as Jody's, but it fills the back porch with perfume! I'll try and describe it within a couple of weeks when it peaks.

Yes, that was the orchid in the basket and the scent is wonderful. I bring them in when they are blooming or when I think the temps will drop for a few days and they fill the porch with the most wonderful scent. You want to see something really impressive - this is a night blooming cereus flower. They only open for one night but they are huge and when you have a lot open at one time it is breathtaking - but little scent just great beauty! -J

They all opened a couple of days ago. Only 8 blooms (4 of 2 each). I am waiting for a warm day for the perfume to really get going. These blooms last about a month.

The plant really needs some attention. Roots have grown all over the outside of the hanging pot and there are lots of dead leave. Can you recommend a site for some maintenance, repotting tips?

Just beautiful!! There are a lot of sites (including youtube) but the simplest and the one close to what I follow is here;

It follows a lot of the 'rules' that we use when cleaning and separating hippeastru. I let the separated plants heal for a few days before repotting. I also soak the medium before using in pots (squeeze out sphagnum, let bark mixture drain) obviously not an issue with mounted orchids. Since I don't divide as often as I should, I use wood baskets for the larger cats as they grow quickly and I don't have the problem of removing attached roots that have grown around the many holes in plastic net pots (the wooden pots rot and the roots are easier to remove). I am in the same circumstance as you, with an overgrown plant that should be divided, so to give myself some extra time, I cut away the bottom of the overgrown pot and dropped the whole plant in a large open basket with coco fiber to drain until spring growth when I will divide. Similar to hippeastrums, overwatering is a much larger problem (during low temps) than under-watering. Hope this helps. - J

I know this isn't an amaryllis, but it's continuing a post from long ago, which was continued last year asking for an ID. I had to post this beauty this year...loving it in the greenhouse. Another 8 blooms that last nearly a month and smell unbelievably wonderful!
