Seed Geranium or Cutting for baskets

After growing several vegetables from seed I'm going to try my luck at growing some annual flowers for my hanging baskets and containers. Could someone help me out on Geraniums and if I can grow them from seed for use in containers I'm a little clueless what a seed geranium would look like in a basket or container. I generally just buy the cuttings from the garden centers and make my own baskets and containers.
