I'm trying them this year. They sprouted okay in a coconut based peat substitute soil mix, but didn't thrive in it. Most of them wilted badly and defoliated as soon as I tried to introduce them outside. I'm restarting some cuttings out of the survivors to see what I get.

I bought some seeds back in March, hoping to have flowering plants on the patio by the end of May, but the package says that the seedlings would need to be indoors for 12-16 weeks. So I'm buying plants this year, and I'll start the seeds in February next year.

creek-side- that helps me understand why my new guinea imp that I started from seed (divine blue pearl) are just now starting to bloom (a few blooms a few weeks ago and now more coming). I think I started them in early March under lights. I put them in the ground at the end of May and they were ok, but just didn't do much. My ng imp divine white blush last year took a while to bloom too.

FWIW, I just planted a 3-4" cutting which rooted in my vermiculite container nicely in about 3-4 weeks. I hope it would take. I know nothing about these New Guinea varity as far as culture indoors. Its Fall here in the east, so I would like to grow indoors hopefully till Spring, when I would put them out. I had put the 3'' pot in a south, sunny window which gives us some nice sun for at least a couple of hours where in the near future, it would get less sun with the shorter days approaching.
