Plans for 2015?

So, while not going around with your pockets turned inside out Back to the Future style, what are you planning on growing for 2015?

I'm going relatively small on my variety of peppers this year, just going to be growing ones for ornamental purposes. NuMex Halloween, Carolina Reapers, and of course my 4 year old Bhut.

But I'll be growing multiples of all of them so I'm actually looking at a fairly packed season.

Only Reapers, from hopefully stable seeds from last season, emphasizing "hopefully"....

I've gotten in tons and tons of seed through trades and round robins, so I'm going to be growing out a lot of them this year.
I got 4 different kinds of sweets, mostly to make paprika and for fresh eating. I'll be doing a pair of each of those.
For my hots, I'm planning on 4 greek pepperonchini for canning. Then one each of 7pot, black hungarian, cascabel, fatali, devils tongue, martins carrot, costeno amerillo, fish, hot lemon, bulgarian carrot, and mcmahns texas bird.

I hear ya. I'm building a cloner for this very reason.

Since I just moved in August on 5 acres I'm going to make a large garden. Along with other veggies im planning on doing about 30-40 different varieties of peppers. 1-2 plants of most of them so I can try them out. Then in following years I'll grow more of less varieties while still trying some news ones.
I'm really excited to try the choc habs, Jamaican hot choc, Aji lemon, Aji pineapple, and bunch of different scotch bonnets. Really anxious to try the Aleppos and some various superhots as well as classic jalapeños and poblanos.

I am overwhelmed with the number of varieties that I have received both from swap and other trade. But I have to limit what I will grow about 15 or so.
On the top of my list are:

-- Choc. Hab, Red Hab, Lemon Drop, Red squash, Scotch bonner, Red Rocoto, Trinidad Scorpion, Tepin, Chenzo, Fatali ( Red & Y), Jalapeno, Fresno, Chinese 5C, NeMex Twilight, Aleppo, Pepperoncini, Shishito

I have to live within my means, I think.

I'm growing a bunch to try this year from sweets to supers. I think my wife believes I've gone a little crazy with this stuff though!

Not really sure yet. I have some homemade crosses I want to try, some new super hots and habs, and maybe some overwinters that dont make it.

I've got a bunch of 3 month old ornamental bonchis doing well. Will be taking extra seedlings of the various varieties that have recently popped and twisting the stems together to form more interesting bonchis.

I'll be backing off the super hots this year as I have enough powder, flakes, frozen, and sauces to last me a good long while, with the exception of Pepper Lover's White Naga. I got ahold of a couple pods a few months back and really enjoyed the flavor (though not the heat). Will be using it sparingly in various products.

Here's the list so far.. trying to keep it fairly short to keep my water bills down.

    Aji Dulce
    Aji Lemon Drop
    Aji Pineapple
    Ancient Sweet
    Fish
    Fresno
    Giant Aconcagua
    Sweet Scotch Bonnet
    White Naga
    Jimmy Nordelo

    Overwinters
    Serrano
    Habanero
    Poblano

31 varieties of bacs, chins, and a couple pubes (trying for the first time).

I'm done growing peppers i can get easily / cheap at the store (jalepeno, poblano, newmexico, serano, etc). Just seems like a waste of space since you can get them for so cheap already.

I'll be doing the same as always, planting way to much crap and driving myself even crazier by trying to isolate as much ss possible this year.

    Seysonn,
i hope thats a typo? what do you plan on doing with a "SCOTCH BONNER"? Are you gonna eat it or just play with it? LOL

Dump the Lemons and double up on the Pineapple... There is no contest there..Pineapple kills all the Lemons and Limons

    That is funny John.
Of course it is a typo. Notice that "T" is next to "R" on the keyboard ?

    Cyrus,

I figured that... Just wanted to point out you're growing scotch bonners. I had a good laugh when i read it..

"I'm done growing peppers i can get easily / cheap at the store (jalepeno, poblano, newmexico, serano, etc). Just seems like a waste of space since you can get them for so cheap already. "

Agree. That's why I quit growing bells. But I like my seranos red ripe and the poblanos aren't so cheap here anymore.

My plan this year is to grow more peppers. I am going to be growing more hot, and super hot this year. While I will be growing some sweet peppers as well they will be a few plants only. (The only two bell peppers I will be growing are Mexibell, and California Wonder. ) For sweet peppers I grow gypsy peppers. They are more productive, and less picky than bell peppers about conditions of weather.

I grow jalapeno, and pablano. Though I buy the seedling for them. I use seeds for the ones that I can not get at any garden center. This year it more about making sure there will be enough space left for tomatoes.

Heh, I tend to like growing stuff you can get in the store because I'm tired of always having to buy the stuff. And never knowing really where they came from or how they were grown. There is also something extra satisfying to me about picking off the plant and cooking/eating it up right then- nothing beats that kind of freshness.

That's why I'm growing pepperonchinis- because we eat a ton of canned ones. No sense buying them when I can grow them. And we love pickled peppers in general, from mild to super hot for cooking. And sweet and hot paprika- I use a lot of it in cooking.
And this year is a big experimental year of not growing store hots, and only hots I've gotten in trades. It will be a little weird to not grow jalapenos, seranos, or poblanos this year. I've tried to pick out some "comparable" other varieties from my seed stock. And it was tough choosing- I have another 20 or so kinds that aren't getting grown this year.

My plans are for my peppers to not get eaten by deer again. For peppers the plan is an over wintered caramel bhut, peach bhut, moruga scorpion, 7 pod brain strain, fatalii gourmet jigsaw, fatalii yellow and white, chocolate scotch bonnet, serrano, naga morich, locato, and then possibly a few more I got in the seed swap. Wow I didn't think it was that many until I started typing haha well a lot for me anyway.

I've got bhuts, red savina, aji limon and jalapeno. maybe a couple extras if I see something I want.

    Mecdave,
Send me ur address. I'll send you the ultimate pepper for bonchi. Cumari, only grows about a foot tall anyway. I'll bet someone thats into that could do amazing stuff with it. And its a great pepper also. John

Cumari is also one of the tastiest peppers around besides being short. Mine did get 3' across though.
    Every one should grow them.
Thanks John for turning me on to this pepper.

    John, you've got mail. Thanks!

    Huh, Cumari eh?
Just looked it up. Hippy Seed Company guy gave it a great review, and its got some very pretty flowers. Just ordered a pack of seeds for my own bonchi making!

    Edyminion,

i can send you seed also and dried pods. I got it from Smoke a few years ago. One of my favorites..John

Nah, thats okay. Already ordered a pack. Those guys gotta make a living, and a couple bucks isn't going to put me out on the street. :)

Growing a few more types of Cumari this year. Hopefuul they will be as good.

    Mecdave,

    They went out today

(I posted this in the wrong thread yesterday)

My Gawd John, what am I going to do with all these seeds?! All I can say is thank you very much. I wish I had something else to offer in exchange, but what do you get for a guy who already has everything? :-)

    Dave
