Wolf R304 or GR304?

We have a small kitchen and only have room for a 30" range. We want an all gas range and were initially looking at Blue Star but don't have good service in our area.

A local appliance store has a floor model of the old Wolf all gas range R304 with the semi-open burners. They're offering it for $3450 with trim. Is this a good deal, or should I wait and go for a new GR304 (understanding that it has sealed burners)?

Is the price reasonable for a discontinued floor model?

TIA! Any advice, suggestions, etc is appreciated!

Thanks jellytoast! I'm glad to hear you love the range! I think I just may jump on it...just wanted to make sure I wasn't overpaying for a discontinued floor model. It helps to hear your experience for comparison. :)

I'd also go for the R304 of those two!
However, I do think you're putting too much emphasis on the lack of Bluestar service in your area. What's to service? I've had mine two years with no issues, and after all, these ranges are so basic, I can't think of anything on it that I couldn't repair myself or any appliance repair guy for that matter.
Just something to think about before you take Bluestar off your list of contenders... Chris
Edit: was posting at the same time, if you have decided on the Wolf Enjoy! :)
I was this close (holding thumb and forefinger quarter inch apart) to buying an ag Wolf when I discovered Bluestar, you can't go wrong either way. chris

Right after the new wolf GR304 came out, there were a number of posters trying to track down the R304 model because they were not thrilled with the changes. IIRC, the changes were to make the all gas have more components in common with the dual fuel, but I may be mistaken. Somewhere there are some posts here that list each of the differences between the GR and the R.

Thanks for the advice, ctycdm! I'd actually still be interested in a Blue Star but don't have the option to see one in person, and now I'm enticed by the cost savings for the R304!

And Barryv, I hadn't realized there were posts on here comparing the GR and R304 models. I'd searched and not found anything but probably just didn't use the right search terms. I'll look again. Thanks for the heads up!

I'd searched and not found anything but probably just didn't use the right search terms.

Gardenweb's built in search isn't the best, I would use Google like so:

    site:ths.gardenweb.com your search terms

    Here's one such thread ...

I don't think it's mentioned that the burners are different as well. The old-style have two rings ... the higher heat levels come from the larger, outer ring, and the low and simmer levels come from the small inner ring. The heat levels are infinitely variable from high to simmer.

BTW, dmeah, you might be able to negotiate a better price with your dealer. It's worth a try.

Here is a link that might be useful: Wolf R304 vs. new redesign

Jellytoast, great work finding that link, that was the post I was thinking about - it even went into detail on the change to the oven ignition, which I thought had changed, but wasn't sure.

Thank you!!! That link was very helpful, and I had definitely missed it in my earlier searches. I think that the range might be the best option for me given its attributes and discounted price. Thanks for all the help!
