We painted our brick home. Many older, traditional-styled homes here in the South are painted brick. We really love how our house turned out, and get so many compliments. I think a painted brick house with a full front porch could have a farmhouse vibe, more plantation-like, but still agricultural.

Your problem is that the white farmhouse was made with white-painted wooden siding. Brick is brick colored, for the most part, unless it's the expensive stuff with lots of white pigment.

Have you considered white cement board in a shiplap siding pattern?

It's challenging (and expensive) to try to change a traditional architectural vocabulary into something else while still trying to maintain the original vocabulary.

You simply need to accept that there's additional expense to do what you want to do.

We are building a Victorian style farmhouse and are using the cement board as described above. We also wanted brick but just couldn't figure-out how to get the look that we wanted, so we are going with cement board but will have a brick carport attached toward the rear of the house This sounds weird, but it looks really nice and allows us to incorporate the brick for the steps and the bottom portion of the home. Maybe something like this will work for you?
