Chamberlain actually sells little die-cut sun shields that wrap around the sensors.

You can obviously make something yourself and people have used cardboard tubes.

Sometimes reversing the two sensors helps as well.

Thanks Mike. I will have to see if I can get someone to come do this for me. I tried to do the paper roll idea, but my sensors come right up to the end and no way to slip them on....tried taping them, and when the door opened, it knocked them off. I just know this gets tiresome and a pain for an old woman! I have to back my car out before the sun comes up or wait until after noon!

At least with Chamberlain (which also makes Liftmaster and Craftsman) if you hold down the wall button it will force the door to open or close. It only works with the wall button, not remotes or keypads.

Just repositioning the may help or flipping them too. Any local handyman should be able to do it in less than an hour.

Well.......my garage door sensors still have the sun shining on them and won't stay closed.....this is so disgusting! I have had 3 different garage door men come out....one changed the sensors around...and they are at a loss! I am sick and tired of messing with this! Any other suggestions?

Is this a new opener? Did any of the repair men try replacing the sensors? Is it possible that one is slightly out of specification?

The other option is to simply bypass the sensors. Probably not a good idea if you have kids or pets running around but most adults can manage not to close the door on themselves or others.

Mike....you have been so kind with your suggestions. My house is only 2 years old, so everything is pretty new. My builder and two others, who sell and install garage doors, have tried various things. All are stumped! I was laid up several months this time last year with back surgery, etc., so I never drove my car, so the garage door did not get used....so now this year, this problem has popped up.
