Help with choosing nightstands for custom bed

Hi everyone (Happy New Year, btw)....I am currently rehabbing and furnishing a home and need help with the master bedroom..we have a cherry kingsize bed (with coordinating dresser) and need nightstands ....I've been looking at bachelor chests (need extra storage) but am coming up empty...so I am hoping to pick everyone's brains here for suggestions! In the pic, the bed isn't centered on the wall, there is plenty of room for bachelor chests on either side or 2 or 3 drawer (large sized) nightstands

Bachelor chests are a good idea. Because of the smooth edges and curves on your bed, my first though is Chinese antiques, as opposed to Chinoiserie or Asian-influence. Some of the late 19th century, natural wood pieces have rounded edges on the tops or rounded legs or trim that would go nicely with the bed.

those are beautiful...i especially like the first one...my first impulse was trying to find a painted piece or even metal.....there will be a lot of brown tones...flooring, bed, dresser(pictured)

....i like the one linked below, but it seem perhaps a tad too feminine?

Desert, I've been searching for a new bed and there it is in your bedroom! Would you mind sharing info about where you purchased/had it made? It's gorgeous!

hi olychick...thank you for the comment!

unfortunately the bed was made by a fellow in montana who is retired....we purchased the cherry wood, and he made the custom design, it was approved, voila....both pieces are over 15 years old

olychick, that was gonna be my question too. I'd love a new bed and I want a footboard, but not a metal or sleigh bed.

Thanks for the info; you're very lucky to have such a gorgeous piece. I'm totally bummed; it's JUST what I've been looking for.

I'd go for something painted with all the (gorgeous) wood. I personally LOVE navy.

I'd pick bedding and then paint a chest in a coordinating color.

Does a mirrored chest float your boat? I think they are a love it or hate it item.

I like the shape of the Bernhardt chest you linked. I do not think it is at all feminine.

    nsm, those are lovely chests.

Beverly do you have a link for the 2nd one?

bev, thank you for providing those pics!

i lean toward the painted chests in this instance, mainly because the bed has a matching dresser, the floors are dark brown, so there is a lot of brown in the room...

i really like navy too...in fact, one of the rugs that may go in the room (currently in the dining room) is a oriental rug that is mostly navy...the entire home is painted the bluish/grey color, and i was considering doing the dining area walls in navy

the other issue, i'm not sure i like the lacquered finish with this furniture ...the asian style is a bit iffy to me...the other wood finish chests with matte finishes are gorgeous...especially the first one...i'm really not very adept at mixing wood finishes, especially if the pieces are side by side, to me visually it just looks better to go with a contrast painted finish

    bbstx...

the bedroom has a huge reach in closet that is mirrored (gah!) so i don't think i want to add more mirrors... this house is a 'modular' home that was adjacent to our vineyard and went on the market, so we snapped it up...it poses 'interesting' design challenges to say the least...(i've considered starting a thread on re-decorating it, in an of itself!)

i agree with you about the chest i linked...i like it quite a bit personally, but DBF thinks white furniture looks 'girly' (throw back to little girl's white bedroom furniture so commonly used)...i may be able to persuade him with more rustic lamps and accessories

you can see just the corner (in the dresser pic), but there is a sitting room right across from the master that will probably have a desk which will be also be natural wood tones...i'm considering putting a barn door on that opening for privacy, and it would probably be painted white to match the doors throughout the house (and baseboards)....still not sure on that one though, rustic barn boards would look pretty cool too... this is one space that needs a 'mood board' (for visualization purposes) but i am just terrible at those too!

d-s, I wish I had a photo of the barn doors my niece put in her house. She got boards out of an old barn on the family farm and had them fabricated into a door. The boards are just how she found them, most are weathered gray, but a few were worn white paint and couple were turquoise paint. They have to be at least 50 years old, if not older. I couldn't believe she found boards painted turquoise! Her home is casual and kid friendly. The doors are perfect!

bb, oh wow! what a find for her...so fortunate!

the more i think about it, finding a more rustic looking door would definitely have more impact...right now everything is looking pretty 'generic' (paint color, 6 panel doors, moulding, wall color) ...my hope is to liven things up with art and furnishings , and rugs...

nsm....i'm sorry i missed addressing you personally in the message to beverly...(having posted the painted chests) i was trying to combine my response...i like the navy color the best, but i think i would need to stay with a matte finish...i googled navy bachelor chests and pretty much came up empty..

Beverly, to finish it off, do you have a link for the third one? Thank you!
