There aren't many glazing fans here at GW. When I posted a similar question many months back, I was persuaded against it, and now the kitchen is in, I'm glad. My kitchen gets only filtered afternoon light, so I think it would have been a mistake.

To my eye now, most glazing jobs leave the cabs looking as if they haven't been regularly washed. Not all, but many, and I notice it. That said, I know a neighbor with my exact cabinets -- a rich cream verging yellow -- and she glazed very, very lightly. It looks fine. Our mfg was Holiday, and IIRC, the upcharge to glaze was about $3K. I would not in a million years attempt it myself, but if you have fabulous DIY talents, you might pre-order a door and try it, maybe. I will let the experts chime in on that one.

Mine are glazed and it pulled the whole kitchen together.
I was struggling with pulling the cabs, counter and existing floor together.
Mine are cherry with a darker glaze. It is hard to see in the picture but the glaze pulls in the black in the floor and darker areas in the counter.
Lighter cabinets can look "dirty" with glazing, so check it out first.

my cabinets are glazed - but they are a stained maple. the glazing makes the details pop and I am very happy with it.
however, if I had had a painted cabinet, i wouldn't have gone with a glaze.
And I have a steady hand and am fairly artistic but I don't think I would trust myself to do a proper job glazing.

Good point. I should have been more clear that I meant light paint. I did glaze my island. It is cherry finished in a sort of cabernet color, glazed in what they called "sable." The glazed parts look pretty black, and it really makes the piece look lush.

MizLizzie, you're right, a glaze can bring all of the elements in the room together. That's actually why I may do it. I want bronze hardware, but since the cabinets will be yellow, it will make the hardware look less harsh.

And lastly, thank you to everyone who contributed your,thoughts and ideas to this post. It's really helped me.
