Hi Harperqt, some initial thoughts --

- Lower the chandelier. If budget allows, changing it out for a more updated style would be a nice touch.
- Add 4th dining chair?
- Take away the accessories on the table, floors/corners and artwork above window.
- Add just one larger centerpiece on table, like a ceramic vase or bowl.
- Add some color/texture/warmth with window coverings, like Roman shades or panels.
- Maybe hang round, (brass/antique brass) mirror on right wall instead of current artwork.
- Change artwork on left wall? Do you have a better picture of this piece?

I would love to see a nook there using your same table and chairs. The nook could be placed on the wall with the map (?) It would make it so cozy and attractive. I agree with changing the light fixture.

I'd recommend a settee and a harvest table with a few chairs. At the same time, I would replace the fixture with a vintage style and add an antique mirror or even a set of plates behind. A black board on the other would be fun and useful. [houzz=];[houzz=];[houzz=];[houzz=]

I would start be removing everything from the walls and floor, leaving just your table and chairs. Install a curtain rod all the way across the windows and hang curtain panels, in colors/pattern you love, at each end. Replace the photo board and map if you want to, but the sizes are good for the area.

Thank you all so much. I'm not attached to the furniture especially the chairs. I've wanted to replace lighting, put up panels on window, and get new chairs and art work. BUT my biggest dilemma is the whole kitchen, though nice and bright, is a complete blank slate and I can't decide what I like or what colors would look good. The cabinets are what's called white washed pine. Am so not fond of them but I have no plans to update them anytime soon as I hope to update counter top to granite this summer. Gotta budget for it. It really is a nice bright small kitchen but it's in need of color and warmth! I just don't know what I'd want in here. I only know I don't want black and red (I don't have an excuse for the current chairs) I've even thought of a settee in front of window, hence the three chairs only scene. The wall color is Sherwin Williams Beige Sand from the '90s. I'm told they don't carry it but they've mixed it for when I've needed to touch up my walls. The floor is variations of beige and gold travertine. I've added more photos of the kitchen. I like that it looks clean and bright but I'm stumped on what colors would look good in here.

Your floor is beautiful. The kitchen is okay, I think that replacing the counter, as you're planning, will make a huge difference and will make it look way more luxurious. If you want to add warmth, I'd suggest wood and wicker for furniture and green and cream/natural would be lovely for soft furnishings like curtains and pillows. I too was thinking that a bench would be nice along the wall with the map.

The best strategy is to get the counters first, coordinating them with the floor. Then address the cabinets to coordinate with the floors and counters. Then paint.

You could probably get slipcovers for your existing chairs.

I love the banquette suggestion but if budget becomes an issue I think you can really have a nice space by adding a rug under the existing table to "anchor" it and then if you have a 4th chair bring it into the set...however if not purchase 4 new chairs...or even keep two and add two to compliment. It really does all boil down to how much you want to budget for this project and the glass table really does work well in a small space.

Budget friendlier option, don't know if either option is comfortable though (I'm in Europe), so you'll have to try that out.
