Please. What is wrong with oak? Your ceiling is out of this world. If anything the fireplace surround could be changed somewhat. But I don't know how. It's just one big blob of white now. Maybe it was oak & someone didn't like it so they painted it white.

That wood trim is expensive! If you are planning to repaint / redecorate I would do that first and decide last as to what to do with that trim. I think the current paint color and possibly the floor is the problem with the oak. I had a house with all this oak trim, too, and I found that once I repainted/redcorated that my Yecky oak trim became a beautiful feature in my house. I did though have the '94 oak wood cabinets painted a lovely cream with a glaze. Saved a ton of money and up-dated the kitchen. And please, do not touch that ceiling if you decide to paint the trim after-all. It is too special.

I appreciate everyone's opinions and thank you for responding. I however do not like the Orange oak color at all and can not seem to fathom looking at it everyday. That is just my opinion for my home.

One thing that causes the oak to become more orange over time is the polyurethane aging. You might take it out, sand the poly off, touch it up as needed and apply new poly.

We're adding wood to part of our couch that we just redid and part of it is oak. I've been mixing the stain as I wanted it a little darker, but was amazed that a golden oak stain on oak comes out a deep amber. It was after that that I read that it's the poly that turns orange over time, and causes havoc for so many homeowners.

This is not common, but I saw your pictures and said to myself: this is a house for black baseboard trim, leaving the oak in the ceiling and stairs. what a ceiling.

Hi Tedbixby, is it possible you can send a picture of your kitchen cabinets, my home was built the same year and I have a medium oak stain thought out my home, as much as I want to paint everything a off white its out of the question my hubby won't even consider it.

Paint the trim, refinishing with a different stain requires more time and money,l I just noticed that this is from last year so you probably have done that by now.
