Hi there! I'm a complete beginner at this so bear with me if I sound uneducated! I received a gift of blooming daffodils last year, with the bulbs exposed. On my mother's advice, I waited until the leaves had died and gone completely brown, pulled them off and summered the bulbs in a shoe box of soil in a cool, dry, dark place. In late October I planted the 4 bulbs and put them outside on the balcony (I live in the West of Ireland so a cold winter, but I'm quite high up so frost probably wasn't an issue). Now only two of the bulbs are showing shoots, and I'm wondering if I did anything wrong that prevented the other two from popping up. Any advice appreciated, I'd really love some nice Daffodils to appear and provide some cheer! I've attached a (quite bad) picture so you can see the container and soil (which is fairly damp, so perhaps I over-watered?) Thanks for any input!
