Banana tree not doing well

I have a big banana tree that has been thriving until this season. It had five hands of fruit, quite a lot, and I have been cutting down the trunks after I cut down the fruit. The new shoots some up but are now dying and I have no clue why. I am trimming off the dead leaves but now it just looks a bit sad!
Any ideas what to do? I did put fertilizer stakes in today.

Which zone are you in? When you say "...had five hands..." you mean only five hands on the one bunch and that was the first time fruiting?

I am in zone ten, south west florida. the tree had five bunches of fruit, the two previous years it has only had three bunches.
