I'd probably divide it. Also since it's a perennial cutting off the brown stuff in the fall could make new shoots come up in the spring. Not sure if that would work indoors but that's how to grow Asparagus.

What kind of soil do you have it in and how is the drainage? They're a very tough plant so should be thriving if the conditions are right.
