Its more about how many colors you use than what colors go together. I would advise not to use more than 3 colors in furnishings and decor. More than that feels chaotic. If your are struggling with color combinations go to Houzz photos and type n key words e.g. Blue and white , to see hundreds of wonderful and often surprising color combos that work.

Orange and maroon, IMHO.

I remember seeing a bathroom in that color in the original 'Farenheit 451' movie. I still have nightmares about that bathroom.

But I love orange with almost any other color!

Thanks, marilynellis. I'm not struggling with colors rather just curious about what other people are thinking. There were so many who answered white on the poll that it got me to thinking and I couldn't actually come up with a combination that sounded truly unusable. So just a curiosity killing the cat kind of thing. :D

Cheriealford...Maybe that combination was symbolic of the heat? lol... but I can see that being a little too "hot" to handle. :)

I dislike orange and blue together, but absolutely adore orange and green together.

I also am not a fan of pairing similar colors that don't have the same undertone as they don't look right together IMHO. An example would be gray and brown.

I like contrast when pairing colors so that each color brings out the vibrancy of the other one.

Sorry posting the same picture twice--I'm going to blame it on the changes that I'm not used to, and I can't fix it without starting over.

Yellow and gray are great together, but I sure don't like gold and gray together.

I dislike red and purple together, even though as individual colors I like them both.

Colors that "don't go together" is also a trend. For instance Blue and green, had you wore that a couple if decades ago, it would not be tasteful, now navy and green are often seen together. Same with purple and red. Not that I would put purple and red together on a wall, at least not this decade.

You can make most colors work together if you pay attention to shade and tone. There are some color combos that don't appeal to me (reds, purples qnd pinks) but that doesn't mean they don't objectively go together.

I love the point you just made, Lois. The colors that don't appeal to you remind me of sunsets and I love sunsets...throw a bit of coral in there and I'm in heaven. Colors reflect emotions or memories or images and I think a lot of what we think about color combinations is based upon personal experiences and memories of how those colors were used. I think that what makes it so much fun.
