Thermador - Have seen some pretty negative reviews on appliances

considering Thermador or Wolf - anyone have any recent exper with both? I trying to outfit a new kitchen in the next 6 mo. Therm. seemed like I could save a little $ but get an upper brand but after looking at consumer reviews/comments on Houzz I'm afraid that is not the case and I should just go with Wolf - thoughts?

That "Speed" oven is so speedy...

I just hope you don't share in the bad experiences we have encountered and get a reliable "speed" oven!

7 year old THERMADOR refrigerators evaporator went our before Christmas. Three service calls and it was not able to be fixed. Thermador (after four months of delays and no communication offered to bring another one in 18 months for $6500. I tried to have them buy back my old one but they would not. There was no way I would wait 18th months and get another Thermador!! Bad customer service, very delayed responding to this problem.

Well, my speedy "speed" oven is now due June 2nd so at that point 18 months after ordering (but I am not holding my breath that it will actually be here) so I'm learning to love the hole in my built in cabinets which is great as a substitute junk drawer

my refigerator column and then my last piece i was waiting for, my dishwasher just came in 14 months. the first piece i received were my sream oven combo, about 8 months. Hang in there.

I am old -timer in this forum with the last post a year ago. All I can tell you is that their customer service sucks big time and their so-called service technicians do not seem to know how to fix anything except replacing the whole unit. Which is surprising because the majority parent company is Bosch and most of the parts have a Bosch equivalent. But then again you need trained people knowing what they are doing

We have a new ( 1 year old ) Thermador Oven, Speed Oven and Warming Drawer combination. It has been broken down for 2 months. No parts available for the next 4-6 months!!! The Thermador service dept is terrible. We highly recommend that a customer consider other options !

We have a 48 inch thermador pro harmony gas range. It worked great until an error showed up on the screen recently. Error 0210. There is absolutely NO support from Thermador. This company is a ghost. Don't expect any support. Totally unacceptable. We have useless ovens now due to what I think was a software update gone wrong. Where are you Thermador? I wish so badly I had never bought this range.

Start posting on their social media and tag them. I got blocked on their instagram page because I let people know the real delays, not anywhere near 6-8 months they kept pushing. They were more interested in sales than clearing up a tremendous backlog. They were not candid with their existing customers as well as potential customers. I waited 14 months for some appliances. They didnt appreciate honesty. @Thermador Home Appliances

P.o.s. is how I descrbe my dual fuel thermidor range. I would never purchase another one. The company thatI purchased it from is no longer in business. I could have the "light" fixed but it would be a rebuilt one and I'd be without a stove for 2 weeks. Now the burners keep clicking. P.O.S.!!!!!!!!

I have a Thermador range that came with my new construction home. I hate it. Mechanically seems fine, but the computer keeps going bonkers and I cant run the oven. There is not a hard reset button to easily address this. You have to turn off the breaker, wait five minutes, turn it back on, snd then wait and pray that the computer resets. it doesn’t always reset. then I have to try again. This occurs pretty frequently. i cant speak for Wolf. If I could inexpensively just swap this Thermador for a Samsung or LG, I would. No, not the fanciest brands, but they are reliable.

    last modified: 4 years ago

Yes, mine too. I rerouted the plug from the back of the stove to the outlet on the counter so resetting is more convenient. Not using the convection feature helps reduce the occurrence of the dead oven. No fix on initial warranty visit. I later asked for another warranty visit however none of the Seattle area authorized repair shops could come due to understaffing. Repair shops suggested I phone the area company rep, however these calls were never returned. Avoid these stoves.

Got my Thermador 36-INCH DUAL-FUEL PRO HARMONY RANGE (PRD366WHU) installed about 45 days ago. I used the oven for the first time yesterday. When I opened the oven door the metal piece directly above the gasket that seals the oven was pulled down and I was unable to shut the oven door. I had to push it back up and inside the oven. Also, while the chicken was cooking I noticed condensation on the knobs and digital screen. I have a Thermador technician coming to my house next week. Has anyone else had any problems similar to mine? Looking for advice.

    Thermador. Very Poor Customer Service.

We have been mostly happy with our Thermador appliances (full kitchen suite bought in 2016) but their customer service is just bizarre. We have been trying to get one of our ovens repaired for MONTHS. The thermostat has always been wonky (especially for such an expensive appliance -- 6 burner, double oven). It got less dependable recently and I called for a service check. It took 5 weeks for someone to come. The technician diagnosed the problem and set a repair date another month out. He failed to show up. No phone call. Just a no show. In the afternoon, after waiting at home all day, I got an email with a new repair date. No apology. No explanation. Just a new date ... another month out. Technician was a no show then, too, and for two other appointments. Four missed appointments. Four days waiting at home for a repair. On this last missed appointment I didn't even get an email with a new date. I called customer service and spoke to a lovely agent who wasn't able to help so she tried to get a manager to help. No one was available. They would call me. After a week with no call, I sent them an email on their customer service form. I got a response saying they would contact me "soon." That was a week ago. I have heard nothing. It is really really bizarre -- worst customer service I have ever experienced. I wish we had gone with another brand. I suspect any other brand would be better than this.

I have a Thermador Professional range, Mod: PRG486GDUS, I have been trying to get a replacement part, the SIMMER MODULE, for two years, but no success and no help from the company. Dealers want nothing to do with parts. Authorized service techs are nonexistent. PELASE STAY AWAY FROM THERMADOR! THE WORST COMPANY TO DEAL WITH.

Very disappointed in the Thermador electric wall oven, (model # ME301YP/01). It's barely 2yrs. old. Cookies do not brown on top, but the bottom does. It doesn't matter if the oven setting is on Bake or Convection Bake. It doesn't matter the position of the racks or baking one sheet pan at a time. Any help or suggestions would be welcomed.

Our Thermador ovens seem to do fine. Critical to pre-heat. Especially on the big one. The smaller steam-oven cavity is much smaller and less prone needing a solid pre-heat session. Once at temp, ours holds temperature exceptionally evenly and produces fine results. However, it it is not allowed to reach the temperature called for, results will be uneven. For what it is worth, we have found that some recipes (especially cookies) do MUCH better on plain old BAKE than Convection Bake.

Thermador customer service is beyond horrible. Have couple years old freezer (paid more than $7000). It stopped working. Called customer support and get technician appointment in two months. Guy showed up and said that he doesn’t have the part to fix the problem. Promised to order it. I paid for his visit. He came again after another two months and asked if I have the part. Obviously, I didn’t have it and reminded him that he is supposed to order it. His reply: “I don’t have it and it’s not my responsibility to have it”. I called to Thermador after his visit and spent few hours waiting on the phone without any result. Unbelievable experience. Hope it helps other folks to make decision about buying any product from Thermador.

In my experience, Thermador appliances are overpriced and unreliable. We remodeled our kitchen in late 2015 with a Thermador all-in-one Convection/Microwave, Professional Oven and Warming Drawer, a 36 inch gas stove with chimney exhaust fan, and dishwasher. Two years later, I had to buy a new motor for the exhaust fan which cost over $500. A couple of years after that, one of the burners became difficult to light. Then, a year ago, the convection microwave stopped working. The repairmen wasn't sure whether the fix would require just one part for over $300 or require a second part for over $500 as well. A replacement microwave was over $2000 with a 1 year wait. We decided to try the fix with the one part for $300+. It worked for several months, then died again. While the repairman was assessing our microwave issue, he said fixing the burner on our stove would require taking the entire cooktop apart which would be very expensive. Now, another burner has become difficult to light. And, over the holidays last year, the oven stopped maintaining a consistent temperature. The temperature varies by as much as 100 degrees. Can't imagine what it will cost to repair it. I sent a letter to Thermador two weeks ago to see what they might do about all of this, but I haven't heard anything back. We decided to buy a countertop microwave from GE rather than waste any more on repairing or replacing the built-in Thermador microwave.

I will never buy another Thermador product and would advise anyone to avoid it. Thermador appliances are expensive, unreliable, and expensive to repair.

Don't buy a Thermador product. My cooktop and downdraft which are three years old are junk, shoddy workmanship, cheap stainless that stains just boiling water, star burners so hard to keep clean, downdraft does not stop before reaching full height, does not move air efficiently. If you scour the stainless to get rid of the brown spots from cooking it scratches. Therefore you need to use Easy-Off and that means breathing in chemicals but it does work. Should not have to do that to a stainless steel appliance. Yikes!

My original was so much better but this one is a total waste of money. I will never buy another THERMADOR product.

HU-767665888 -- expensive junk! Frustrated doesn't even begin to describe how I feel.

Update from my post 3 months ago -- "worst customer service" ever. Thermador repairperson finally showed up after 7 months and 4 no-shows. $900 for the oven repair and it appears to be already failing again. Technician was also supposed to bring a part for small fix in the smaller oven but the part wasn't on the truck. He said he wouldn't charge me (thanks?) but would stop by the following week to do the quick repair. That was 2 months ago. Haven't seen or heard from Thermador. I would never even consider buying another Thermador product. I agree with Hu's review above, the stoves are cheaply made -- "expensive junk." Eg: The old-timey looking thermostat dial doesn't actually do anything. It's just for show -- unless ours isn't connected properly (which is certainly possible). We are actually happy with our other three Thermador appliances (fridge, microwave, dishwasher) but dread the thought that they might ever need a repair.

Lol I 100% am in LOVE with my thermie range and will never buy anything else. haters are funny.

Had mine 3 or 4 years now and absolutely LOVE every bit of it. she gets lots of use! I’m a professional baker.

DON'T BUY THERMADOR! I I am on my THIRD wine column from them in less than 5 years because the coolant system keeps failing! And it takes them MONTHS to get me another one. Now my very expensive built in coffee machine has broken-again-less than 5 years old-and their service department could not help my CERTIFIED THERMADOR TECHNICIAN on how to fix itI This process started back in Sept. I I just got off the phone with them-I I call every Monday to keep my progress going. They claim they will prorate me for a new one, but have ZERO STOCK of this coffee machine and NO IDEA when they will get it. Absolutely incompetent!

I fervently suggest you do not purchase a dual fuel Thermador range. I spent $18,000 on a pro range. One day I had hot cocoa boil over onto the induction cooktop. It leaked into the internal mechanism and short circuited the entire unit. They sent out a repair person who said it was my fault and not covered under warranty and it would be $4000 to repair . Thermador has terrible customer service and even worse product reliability. Buyer beware

I spent some time deciding between thermador and wolf/subzero for my kitchen remodel.

When we went to the showroom, I noticed parts of the thermador range with a griddle was cheaply built compared to the wolf range with a griddle. It also seemed like thermador had a less-optimal solution to low-simmer boiling that wolf had solved perfectly. The wolf range was clearly the superior product. We liked the thermador refrigeration slightly more due to the stainless steel interior. When we inquired on the prices for going with a termador fridge/freezer but a wolf range, we were surprised to be made aware that there was a STEEP discount if you bought all thermador appliances, but if you wanted to mix and match appliance brands the thermador price of each individual appliances was nearly as expensive as the Wolf/Subzero appliances. You might think that this made thermador more appealing to us: it did not, rather it revealed that thermador was overpriced and couldn't compete with wolf on quality. We immediately decided to go with all wolf/subzero appliances (range with double griddle, column frigde, freezer and wine cooler) and very happily turned our backs on thermador. No regrets, I love my wolf/subzero appliances. My new range cooks like a dream.

Smart. I got lured into the whole package and definitely have regret. Though I love the heating and looks of the 5 spokes, the fridge was a lemon that had to be replaced but they no longer made my model so I went with 2 columns and a contractor had to make adjustments to the cabinets. The hood has had motherboard issues, being replaced twice already and it’s been 8 years. The dishwasher is great though made by Bosch.

    Definitely go subzero wolf!

PRG366WH THERMADOR RANGE INSTALLED 03/03/23 1 MONTH CODE E0110 APPEARS .OVEN NOT WORKING ,PLUS 2 TOP BURNERS.VERY DISSSATISFIED.

The PRG304 is junk. Whenever it is in use there is a strong gas smell from day one. 9-months new now and extremely disappointed. Also, the fit and finish is very low-quality.

We purchased a Thermador 36" ( PRD304WHU); I had heard gas ovens didn't bake as well so

paid extra for the electric oven and WHAT....A.....WASTE.....OF.....MONEY. Nearly everything we bake burns on the bottom and the back left portion of the oven heats much hotter than the rest. I had better results from my old POS oven that cost less than $1,000. Thermador service looked at it and told us we should rotate everything to avoid this issue. If you're paying $6K+ for an oven, you should not need extra steps to avoid burning. Go with the Wolf - or any other brand. Attached is a pic of what happens after making croutons.

We have the exact same issue. We assumed electric ovens would be better. We get a lot of burning in the back of the oven. Every. single time. Whether we use convection or regular baking. Agree that our basic $1000 range that we had previously worked better than this.

I have a 36 inch gas Thermador The starter had to be replaced 3 times. Thermidor service was totally unresponsive. i now rely on my Breville counter-top Oven to do most of my cooking.,

Because of the poor product as well as bad (or non-existant) service service, I would never buy another Thermador.

i too thought i was saving money packaging oven, dishwasher and hood with Thermador. Dishwasher didnt last too long. Had to be replaced.

i bought this oven in june of 2020 for almost $10,000 and have had nothing but trouble with it. luckily i bought an extended warranty for an extra $1,400 . it was good for about a year and then the trouble started. the oven would shut off and if we did not notice that the oven had shut off , thanksgiving dinner would have been ruined. that was bad enough but since then the oven would shut off completely and had to be reset. lately it blows the dedicated 220 circut breaker just as it reaches preheat settings. we have had 5 service calls in the last year and are scheduled for another one on tuesday. all the circut boards and the fan and door switch have been replaced and now they are going to rreplace the wiri ng harness the mother board ,again, and the baking element. the oven has blown the beaker the last 2 days in a row and the oven burns anything near the back right corner of the oven. we have had thermador ovens for decades and never had any problems , but this is the last straw. if it does not work after this repair i want a replacement or my money back. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Avoid Thermador. My refrigerator broke November a year ago---Under warrenty. I am STILL trying to get a repair or replacement. This company could care less. I send them the information they request wait and when I call back something else is needed. It has been repaired twice with parts on back order for months and still is not functioning despite the repairs. I will never buy any appliance from them again.

My oven 2 years old stopped working. Since this was repair #3 they covered it under warranty. Replaced display and motherboard. Worked fine for 3 minutes. Then replaced motherboard, control board, display and harness assembly (Not sure there is much more to it) Now works fine. I wont hold my breath. Microwave was replaced because it never worked. The dishwasher works great but the exhaust fan mother needed to be replaced. Cooktop no issues. Fridge needed a new ice maker. Not bad for $20,000!

I still love my Thermador and have had zero issues. It is the best brand of range IMO. All brands have ppl complaining about them, so take this thread as ppl like to complain.

Not in my case-i loved my old Thermidor and purchased new because of this history. If anyone reads my comments they would be hard pressed to defend Thermador-unless it is fine to have the double ovens break down to a non functioning state (won't turn on and needs a new panel) within the first four months following purchase. Yes there was a warranty but that only alleviates the cost, not the need to figure out Christmas dinner for 12 when the oven breaks down on Christmas Eve. This has been the pattern over the last six years- every 4-6 months the oven breaks down and we have to pay approximately $1,000 to repair. The double ovens are built in and replacement is not easy, but in the near future. Our Thermador dishwasher needed a new motor after 3 years. We received zero interest from the retailers/manufacturers and were on our own with the issues. I would love to be fortunate enough to have a great range that worked but I think you got lucky-maybe don't be so quick to dismiss issues as ppl like to complain-and no other factors played into this-not the repair service and a multitude of part replacements. Plain and simple both ovens are a nightmare

James count your blessings. Following this thread tells a much different story. This brand is not nearly worth the premium prices they are charging.

It's very interesting because Thermador is made by Bosch and Bosch doesn't seem to get nearly as much fuss as Thermador, despite Thermador being the more luxury tier. Think Toyota being more reliable than Lexus, even though Lexus is 50% more expensive. Both made by same company.

Bosch makes a kick-ass dishwasher... I will concede that. I have subzero fridge/freezer/wine/range since I thought those were better made (and I feel they are) but I still went with the Bosch dishwasher over cove. My dishes have never been so damn clean, and it's quiet. Took almost 2 years to get the dishwasher delivered but it was well worth the wait.

My issue is that our thermador wall ovens have been the worst-not minor issues but non functioning without a major part required and a repair bill of $1,000 every time-every 4-6 months. Thermador had zero interest in the fact that we purchased a full kitchen of Thermador appliances or the fact that the double ovens were absolute lemons. The dishwasher also needed a new motor within a couple of years and has never dried the dishes. Never again would I purchase Thermador and I am leaning towards Miele as I have heard much better reviews. What people are reporting has nothing to do with picky expectations relating to higher priced appliances- I simply wanted appliances that were relaible and work- is that too much to expect??

I would not buy Thermador refrigerator. Spent $9,000 on a biult in 36". Needed automatic defrost parts replacement in the first year. Same problem one year later. Customer service is horrible and do not care about consumer. By the way, had a sub zero at my previous house and it never had a problem in 18 years. Wish I had spent the extra $2,000 and purchased another one.

Second vote here for SubZero, we have had one for 10 years and it works as well as ever, well worth the price, it keeps food fresh so long.

I had a kitchen remodel in 2019 using Thermador built in columns/units. Refrigerator, freezer, wine cooler, microwave, range, and dishwasher. It cost many times usual kitchen appliances because they are built in units. We were deciding between the Thermador and subzero/wolf. Thermador was several thousands of dollars cheaper and looked beautiful, but now I am greatly regretting my decisions. It has been 4 years since my remodel. I have had to have my range serviced 3 times, and now the motherboard is not working. I have had the microwave serviced twice. The dishwasher is temperamental and if you don’t close the door just right, it doesn’t start. I had to have the freezer repaired because the fan broke? Looking at many of the other reviews, I see that other people have had similar experiences. I got an extended warranty on the range, and paid extra to have this warranty extended, but now my range isn’t working and Thermador won’t cover the cost of repair since the problem “occurred” in the window between my original warranty and the start of the new one. I have interacted with some pretty normal and decent people at the company. But the overall quality and management has been disappointing. I can understand one lemon, but 4 out of my six appliances having problems is crazy. And now this – to refuse to cover repair under the extra warranty that I had to buy because of the poor quality of the products. I feel badly that I got upset with the agent that told me my repair would not be covered – they are just soldiers – it is the upper level execs that create the poor product and decide not to stand behind it. The estimated cost is over 1200 dollars, which is almost twice as much as what you would pay for cheaper but still name brand oven ranges from other companies brand new. I am not sure how you can be ok with charging so much for appliances then not standing behind your products. If you are paying premium for a luxury item, you expect things to not be a headache. I regret not paying extra for the subzero/wolf or even just compromising and not getting a built in kitchen so I could have reliable products that function properly.

Stay away from Thermador! The ranges are attractive, but they do not age well.

First, the range oven was painfully slow to heat, sometimes over 30 to 40 minutes to reach the desired baking temperature.

Second, too many problems began to surface within just a few years: For example, the broiler went out and the Thermador service people could never find the problem (poorly trained staff).

Third, the oven and range experienced a myriad of other problems and Thermador simply couldn't service as the parts were no longer manufactured (note: quality ranges have a 15-year expected life expectancy, which means Bosch or Thermador is remiss in not supplying parts to older ranges). We had to search the Internet to find whatever parts we could as Thermador cannot be bothered to source.

Fourth, as I alluded to earlier, the Thermador technicians are INEPT AND INCOMPETENT! At best they cannot fix a problem, at worst, THEY BROKE THE RANGE! The last technician came over to fix the oven and broke the oven door. I was watching him, and he tried claiming it wasn't his fault somehow.

Don't buy Thermador. You'll regret it. It might seem like a good range for 2, maybe 3 years, but after that, the honeymoon is over. We will never purchase a Thermador ever again.

We also experience annoyingly long time to heat up, compared to a Kenmore oven that cost 1/10th as much. Thermador is like a big fat-cat obsolete US auto manufacturer, trying to sell people old Cadillacs at premium price when a Toyota is cheaper, is a hundred times more reliable and performs better.

Moved into a brand new condo with all Thermador appliances. I have never seen or used such pieces of junk before! All built in panel appliances that look great but DO NOT DO THE JOB THEY WERE DESIGNED TO DO! Dishwasher control panel requires you push buttons with full force to make contact, the dual oven controls are beyond incomprehensible with their multi-level swiping to do something as simple as microwave for 1 minute. And you have to swipe multiple menus to use the oven- which means I have to wash and dry my hands every time I want to use the oven while I am cooking and prepping, or else it won't recognize my attempts to swipe the screen. But the best is the fridge - one year and it was HOT in the fridge and cold in the freezer. Two trips by repair and they tell me nothing is wrong - with a HOT fridge, nothing wrong? Run, don't buy!

BTW, I'm now sitting on the phone for 45 minutes, waiting to speak with the "right" department - only disconnected 3 times today!

  • last year

Thermador's slogan in my opinion: "Thermador matches poor quality products with even worse customer service."

During our kitchen remodel, we splurged on a "professional-style" Thermador Pro-Harm 30" Gas Range. It looks great -- but heats like a runaway furnace.

Here's the problem: the oven's preheat cycle overshoots by nearly 100°F. Set it to 350°F, and it will hit around 435°F. After 30 minutes, it drops somewhat, but still runs 25-35 degrees too hot with rather large fluctuations in temperature.

We documented the issue and had a Thermador tech visit. He saw it firsthand, took measurements but didn't really fix anything: his response in a nutshell was 'Thermadors run hot.'

Really? That's the fix? Still convinced this wasn't right, I contacted he local corporate office at Chicago's Merchandise Mart. The rep there seemed egnuinely concerned and promised prompt follow-up by the company.

That was almost two weeks ago. Since then: radio silence. I've followed up by email but still no response from Thermador corporate. And still an oven that performs like a furnace.
