Slow text when typing/posting?

I don't know if this has already been addressed.

If I'm typing a short response, text appears as I type it. I have noticed in longer posts, there seems to be an increasing lag in text appearing.

Anyone else notice this? Is it a subtle hint to make more concise comments?

I'm having the same problem. It started last night. I'm on an ipad. I fooled around w/settings but can't fix it. Annoying enough that i tried my husband's newer IPad. Same issue.

Hmm, that's interesting. I have not experienced this and I use an iPad mini, MacBook Pro running Windows7 and a Dell laptop. I'm still running iOS 8.1.3 on my iPad since so many people had issues. I've been on last night and this morning. Lag is typically something using up resources on the unit you are using. Is this happening on your new iPad? If so, is your iPad downloading app updates or are their many apps open?

The problem I'm having is somewhat different . . . When I'm editing my remarks and inserting or replacing text, often a line or two gets highlighted out of nowhere, and I end up typing over that highlighted text. As soon as I notice I have to use Control-z to undo, but it happens a lot and is quite annoying.

I had the lag time thing happen too. I'm on a lap top, using Chrome. And yeah the longer the post the longer the lag time. It's pretty annoying.

This is happening on my iPad, too.

i just posted this one using Chrome. No lag. What OS's are you all using?

kbarb - today I'm having that same problem. I've had some text just be highlighted out of nowhere and then the highlighted text just disappears on me THAT JUST HAPPENED> AHHHH! So now I have to remember what I've typed.

My cursor is doing funny things as well. It's there while I'm typing but when I stop it just disappears - very disconcerting.

I have been having the lag all day. Typing on a mini Android tablet in Chrome. If I type something, I have to wait two minutes for the text to appear in the comment box.

mmm I wonder if my cursor issue is tied in with that. I'm not having lag issues though, however I was last night.

It was happening to me last night too. I am on a Chromebook (chrome browser, obviously). It seemed to only happen if I got more than a few lines of typing in (for example, it is not slow at this point.)

What time zone are all of you "last nights" in? I'm PST, and was having issues around 10-11pm PST last night. Wondering if it is a HOUZZ traffic issue.

I'm experiencing this, too. Thought maybe I needed new batteries in my keyboard. I've also had Houzz completely shut down a few times while typing a comment. I'm using Chrome, too.

    Same here today.

Hi all, we are taking a look at this right now. Did this issue for you start just yesterday, or has it been going on previously?

The slow typing issue started for me this morning. Having Houzz completely disappear while typing has happened a few times since the GW conversion.

For me, it started last night. Lag was bad last night but ok today.. However, once my lag was ok my cursor didn't reinstate itself (Houzz is the only place I'm having a problem with it). The highlighting/deleting text problem was last night but is worse today.

It all started last night for me. No issues previously.

Kirkhall - that's when it started for me as well. But I didn't think it could be a traffic issue because eastern people, who probably create most of the traffic, are all asleep at that point. I'm PST as well

    Thank you. That is helpful!

For me the slowness started a few days ago, off and on, but was worst this morning about 10:30 a.m. CST. Not happening as I type right now, though,

I typed a reply on my Google Nexus last night and had the lag for the first time. PST here too.

Just had the screen disappear briefly while typing this post.

I'm having the same issue. Started last night and continued today. On a very-fast-at-everything MacBook Air (bought 6 months ago, current OS whatever . . .) This computer is insanely fast at everything, and our internet is likewise lightning fast. Definitely only a problem on this site.

Happened last night to me using my iPad.

Glad to know I'm not the only one having the "disappearing screen" issue. Gives me hope that it is solveable.

It happened once to me earlier in the week and then this morning it really got bad but not while typing this. West Coast time here, too. Seems to happen most on posts longer than 10 lines or so.

Oh my gosh, the same thing happened to me last night for the first time. I was on my iPad Air2 running the most current os. Yesterday afternoon I noticed some of my text not even showing when I was at the shop on internet explorer..

Happening to me today in other posts.

So glad it's not just me. I can't say it didn't happen before this morning, but today's when it became so noticeable. It's was about 9 a.m. PST. This is the only site where I'm experiencing this lag in typing.

BTW, I've also seen weird green highlighting that eventually goes away.

Started last night, but it's worse this morning. No problems with my cursor or with anything disappearing, just the lag time. Today it was almost 2-4 seconds to wait per word. Seems to happen on longer posts, it's starting about now in this paragraph. Using laptop, Windows 7, on Chrome browser.

Yes, I am having the problem too and just noticed today. Very annoying. Please fix this folks.

In the meantime, I've been composing longer posts in a separate editor and pasting them in.

Anyone else not experiencing this problem? I've had absolutely no latency and I've tried three devices, using Safari, Chrome, and Firefox.

    Just on my tablet.

I type and then I can set back and watch the keyboard type away by itself.

    It's magic!!

Me too, on my iPad only.

Just makes no sense to me. I'm on my iPad right now and most of the time. I've not experienced this at all.

Ugh. Right now. So bad. 5:50 PM Pacific time. Just made another post in Home Decorating and it started happening on the 4th line of text.

This is happening with longer posts on my Mac laptop running Safari, and isn't an issue with other sites. I first noticed it day before yesterday I think.

I've had it happen to me a few times but when it happens, it is on all websites not just here. For me, it's always a computer issue. I'm usually on my 5 year old laptop with only 2 gigs memory. Sometimes the problem goes away if I close Chrome and re-open. Sometimes I need to reboot. Haven't had it happen on my notebook or phone.

It's awful. This morning I typed a not particularly long post and the lag was terrible. I was actually able to go and brush my teeth and get back before the typing finished on the screen. That's how long it took to catch up!

I don't have that problem, but when I type and hit a wrong key or something some of the text disappears. That is very frustrating when you spend so much time writing it.

I think they fixed it, I just wrote out a pretty long comment and it didn't happen.

    Same here.

    Ditto.

And my cursor is working again. Yes! I'll just have to hope that my text doesn't highlight itself and then disappear. So far, so good

Thanks Emily. Your attention to these things and your help are much appreciated.

    Thanks for the fix!

Oh my goodness I have going crazy trying to figure out what saw causing the keyboard problems on my tablet. I tried different browsers and even downloaded a new keyboard app because I thought it might be my swift key keyboard, but just this second my screen disappeared again. I had the bad lag since Thursday evening, all day Friday and right now it's 1:40am central. I was also having letters disappear and jump spaces all day Friday. Using both Chrome browser for android, boat browser for android and the stock browser, two different keyboards.

Oh I hope it's all fixed soon, I really was hoping it wasn't my swift key keyboard because I love it. By the way I am using Android kitkat tablet. It really does seem to be much better now, hopefully the screen disappearing was just a fluke.

    Thanks for working on it.

Seems to be all better now. Thanks guys!!!

For those of you having the slightly different problem of text suddenly disappearing while typing, just use the undo keyboard shortcut - that is, Control + z if you're on a PC, or Cmd + z on a Mac - and it will revert back to what was typed before. You can do that as many times as necessary to get back what you've previously typed.

Ohmigosh, kbarb, thanks a million for that tip. I didn't think there was any way to recover it, and I've had to retype things more than once.

I suffered the lag too, windows laptop with firefox. It was also giving me fits with highlighting text at random, and doing that "insert text" thing where if you set your cursor back into a block of text you already typed, then begin typing, the old text disappears character-for-character as you key new words. I just checked if that issue is still manifesting and it isn't. :)
The lag isn't happening either and here I am into a second paragraph.
    All better now, I guess.
My initial problem of not being able to verify my account is still unresolved; I edited my parallel already-existing houzz account to reflect my old GW username. My GW account is still linked to a defunct email addy, and I guess their support team has better things to do than update my old email.
