Funny. The room next door was painted in Aleutian blue from SW. It's a nursery for a coming baby. Look closely at the curtains I bought from tjmaxx. They are made by tahari. Can you see the print?

I made the window covering for the top window to keep the sun out for sleeping babies before we decided to paint the trim and the walls. I'm thinking of spray painting the fabric to make it whiter. Ever tried that?

I know, crazy, but how about a accent wallpaper behind bed?just reaching outside of box.

No, I haven't tried spray painting a fabric...the only drawback I can see is that it will make the fabric stiffer.

I'm thinking that a starburst or round mirror would look better over the dresser than the skinny framed rectangle. I like the idea of wallpapering. Was going to paint in the blue- green from the pillow, but someone made the comment about the mistake of painting the rooms different colors all thru the house and now I'm questioning that. I thought the color would warm up the room.

Since blue is a cool color, even blue green, it's probably not going to warm the room more than what you have there now. If you like the curtains, why don't you try them or something similar before you tackle the walls. Take things one step at a time and see what happens. I think you'll be stunned at the difference changing the curtains will make.

Danielle, there really isn't any burgundy in either comforter. The old one was wine and the new one's pillow has a coral-red. The connecting family room has a color called peppery from SW, so I'm not sure I can use another reddish accent, as it would clash when the door is open. Thanks though!

Here's a close up of the pillows. I was set to order whynot's curtains, but they described the color as "orange". How important would it be if they Aren't close enough? I think the pillows would be described as dark coral.

It's hard to relay color over the net...your monitor and mine may not be the same calibration and photo flashes of rooms make awful color depictions. But I would think the palest coral with a hint of pink would be awesome for the wall. Then a very open weave drape.

In looking at the pillows and the curtains, if it were me, I'd order two panels and see how they worked. If you don't like them, then send them back. I would only want two anyway I think because I typically put sheers or a lighter weight fabric in the middle anyway. My gut says that the colors will be very close but you are there and can tell whether your picture of your pillows is the color that shows on your screen. I usually save the image and put it side by side to what I'm trying to match. If the colors show the same on my screen, then I usually have a very close match.

The curtains do need to be pretty light blocking as the daughter who sleeps here wears an eye mask because she can't stand morning light at all. That, and babies sleep here, too. I do like the turquoise though. I'd considered painting the room a version of that.

I was looking at them again and realized that those pillows are fairly casual as are the curtains so I think that's a plus in the guest room. Not too fussy. I think I'd forego wallpaper and move the dresser/mirror more to the center of the wall. Then I'd put daughter's picture over the bed and put a small chair (maybe a rocker) or at least something for her to sit down to put on shoes or hold one of the babies if need be. A small table and whimsical lamp would be the finishing touch. Just a few thoughts.

Cannot move the dresser. Simply isn't room without stubbing toes. The wall pooches out there from the FP on the other side of the wall. It doubles as a changing table, so kinda needs to be tucked away. When baby time is over, I have a taller dresser that was grandma's that is much prettier. Darker wood and just a pretty piece, so I can get rid of the blonde wood low dresser.

Ohhh...I see now. Old eyes, easily distracted, no attention to detail. lol. Take your pick. :D

Whynottryit. , thereeeeeere here! The curtains you recommended arrived. I love them. Love the fabric and the print. However, there is one glaring detail ( in my eyes), which can be a problem. On your monitor screens, you may not be able to see it. The red is perfect. The background, however, is a gray tone. The walls are a goldy yellow and the comforter is definitely cream. I borrowed a foot stool from another room which has the same gray color, and the lampshades have a gray tone, as well. I'm bothered by the clash of the gray and the cream, but am I making a big deal out of nothing? I also borrowed a mirror from another room. It's not centered until I know if I'm keeping it there. These curtains with a cream background would make me do a happy dance!

All of the colors are showing up wrong. The coral pillow looks weird in the picture, which it doesn't in real life. The grayness only shows up on the second picture. Can't take a better photo until the sun moves !

sigh...Moxiemom...darn it. From the pictures, I'd be happy but from what you're telling me, you really aren't. So my best advice, if it really bothers YOU, return them. I will say, it does take a few days for changes to look less drastic so going from the dark to the really light may be what's causing you to focus in more. I think it's really a matter of whether you like them well enough to keep them. Does the blue in the pillows on the bed help in anyway to "marry" the gray to the room?

Yean...nawh, After seeing that last shot, I think that's a winner! I love the gray stool and the blue pillows with the curtains. They'd be a keeper for me.

I would recommend replacing the bedspread. Your bed is your focal point in the room. But if you must keep the bedspread than I would pick out the two brightest colors in the the bedspread. Which looks like to me is the orange and fushia. Start with solid pillows in those two colors. You should not shop for the whole room at once. It's better to add items a little at a time. All your furniture against the wall is dark wood with the dark lamps. If you want to keep the lamps maybe think about spray painting them a soft gold.

Your puppy helps ground the colors so well too! :D

Ok. I'll Give it a few days. The fabric is really nice. I'd recommend these curtains. The artwork was done by my daughter in high school, but maybe if I replaced it with a picture with a few more colors in it? Kind of going along with the the marrying thing? I'm seriously being the poster child for you and Mia and Miranda Rose and Rina and nngirt in the hilarious "if you want an answer......" discussion. I very honestly don't know what I want until I see it! I need suggestions on art and everything else. Glad you all are here!

It definitely does. And no, you're definitely not a poster child. I'm exactly the same way. I have a "feeling" that I want a room to have but it's hard to explain specifics until I actually see them. I just got a little lucky with those curtains...lol.

Anytime we come here with friends or family, that is the best guest room. It's been used a ton. Anywhere from our parents to friends and our kids friends. (All are grown ups). Next to it is a nursery. Children stay in the bonus room.

Ok...so why worry so much about how much your daughter's painting matches the room. It's special. It will make her feel special to see it when she visits and everyone that stays there knows the story and won't even think that the colors aren't just perfect. All the little imperfections are what personalize and make a house warm and inviting. No one wants to feel like they are sleeping in a furniture showroom. Your room is lovely and welcoming. Your guests will feel that they are as well when you offer them that room to sleep in . I'd be honored to stay in that room as your guest. You should be proud.

That's a great idea. My granddaughter passed away 5 years ago at age 11. The Christmas before she had drawn pictures and her mom framed them for all of the family members. Each picture was individualized according to her understanding of them. (My sweet angel drew me a heart with wings in my favorite colors.) I have mine right where she left it. My sons have theirs hanging in their homes. So I am very sensitive about family/children's art. No designer would ever be able to convince me to move it and they would probably not last long enough to really try if they mentioned it more than once. *grin*

Beautiful curtains but I do not like the gray background for your room. The gray is cool, whereas your bedding, wall color, and carpet are warm.

@sootsprite...I understand what you're saying but maybe the coolness of the curtains will calm down all the red tones and give a bit of balance. I do like the play of warm and cool and I think it gives more interest to the room.

Whynot, my heart aches for you. I simply cannot imagine the pain.
My house is filled with art done by that daughter, who is 33 now, but we still have her high school art and college art, and beyond.

This little gem hangs in the bonus room, done by my 3 year old granddaughter, with footsteps courtesy of our 1 year old grandson. And it's not moving!!!!!

Thank you. I only shared that to illustrate how much more important it is to show your love in your home than to be a showcase house. All the layers of life is what truly make a home. So mix a little grey with your blue and your sunny yellow. Your loving heart will shine just that much more.
