Does anyone else do this?

Does anyone else pick thier car by how it will carry bags of fertilizer and plants? Not only carry but how much? Although, the one thing I have not considered, is if I can carry a goat in my back seat. I recall when I first moved here, I was traveling home from work on the freeway and looked at the car next to me. There was a goat in the back seat looking at me! The two women in the front seat were busy chatting like it was absolutely normal to have a goat in the back seat when traveling on the freeway.

..sort of but not entirely.... we chose our car not for a goat..lol...but for our dog....he's a Greyhound and needs a fair bit of headroom - we took a tape measure to make sure - and a rear window that we can wind right down...some smaller cars don't always have that facility....

...bags of fertilizer and plants....well, that's a given....

We live on a small farm so having a truck to haul stuff and animals is perfectly normal. I put dairy goat kids in the backseat of my car one time though. I have had parrots, chickens, rabbits &geese (in pet carriers), our dog, etc in the back seat of my car too lol.

One time I had a few roosters in a carrier in the backseat and the window was partway down and they would start crowing every time we stopped at a light. I got some very funny looks because no one could see them but they sure could hear them lol. My yellow nape parrot also makes a wolf whistle pretty loud. I have got some interesting looks for that as well.

My car is also my truck, although my husband also has a real truck. I just don't like to drive it. Whatever car I get has to have fold down rear seats. I've never hauled goats, but I did one time haul a mini horse in the back of my car. I was afraid it would get hurt in the horse trailer, so I put it in the back seat. I got some really strange looks and a lot of laughter also.

When we traded in my last car I was insisting on a black interior . I had a light grey interior and it was so filthy from all my garden related adventures. Well the car I ended up going home with has beige leather interior . I told my salesman and dh my reasoning and they laughed . Well now guess who has a dirty beige interior ? I do . And everytime my dh gets into the car he makes a comment about it ! Don't say I didn't warn you is my reply ! :)

Never took home a goat yet ... But there is a first time for everything ! :)

I knew a garden designer who drove a BMW 3 Series convertible. It was the last gift her husband gave her before he passed away. She had boxed trees put in the back seat and carried statuary and fountains in the thing. After it was stolen, she bought a BMW wagon and hated it. She said she could carry just about anything in the convertible, but the wagon limited her too much. It was a hoot to see her driving off with a pair of 18" boxed palms flapping in the breeze! As if she was carrying the beach with her. Kim

I once saw a pygmy goat in the front passenger seat of a car parked at a local hospital, all by himself. I gather he wasn't allowed inside.....

Yes Ingrid, that's unfortunately the case. I've been having a heck of a time sneaking in my cockatoo on the weekends, despite that she's the hit of the party with patients, doctors, nurses, etc. All it takes is one grouchy tattler, and it's exit stage left with much finger shaking.

Goats are a lot of fun. Unfortunately, they see almost everything within reach as a snack, including car upholstery.

Saw a guy with a brand new Aston Martin db9 (starting price around $190K) loading it up with chicken manure. That was memorable.

That always puts me ill at ease. I worked for an upscale nursery two blocks from the ocean in Pacific Palisades. A customer bought a pile of five gallon shrubs and wanted to save the delivery charge by having them loaded into her Rolls Royce. I refused to take part in that maneuver. The bloody wood in the interior was more money than I made that summer, including commissions! Kim

But, if you've got it (an Aston Martin or a Rolls or a BMW convertible) - why not? A fond memory from my 1950s Suffolk (UK) country childhood was the familiar sight of one particular eccentric old lady who used to putter round the narrow country lanes in an ancient Bentley (black, of course), its handcrafted interior carelessly displaying battered leather upholstery and 'well-seasoned' wood, a thick haze of dog-hair, the odd straw bale and I'm sure, all manner of other filthy garden God-knows-what ...

True style, as far as I'm concerned. (No wonder I don't quite fit the rather more hygienic/ sterile Houzz image...)

Actually I use my car as a general transport vehicle for gardening materials, remodeling and building materials and dog and dog equipment. I am a fosterer for Sheltie rescue and I picked an SUV that could also carry dog crates. I don't enjoy cleaning up vomit out of the back of my car so crates for transport are a blessing.
