@lessismoore. I'm with you on a single border rug, however I prefer a rug that doesn't go all the way under the bed, maybe just the bottom leg and further.

So, let's add in the painting and change the throw to match drapes ...

Should I mount the curtain rod from one wall corner to the other, or do I stop at the end of the bedside table?

Photographically, it's a bit difficult to skoot the rug down as the pix is a bit short at the base, but obviously, you could easily move it half way down the bed in real life. :-)

Can you do another color for the rug? I hope I'm not asking too much, but I like your ideas.

I would leave a bit of wall on the curtain hanging. Also, something needs to be on other window, but, as you have the base heater there ... not another full length set of drapes to match. ? Hmmm.

Perhaps a roman shade in matching material as drape.

I think a gray rug might be too too much gray. You could to a natural jute type, but it would just blend into your light floors. Black could work. I'm not feeling another distinct color. A chartreuse maybe?

No to chartreuse. How about something off white? Would it be to much of white?

I don't like black that much because it shows dirt really quick...

Can we try off white curtains too? Just to get a general idea? With a gray rug?

The only other color I'm picking up on might be a very special shade of orange that visually matches the wood tones and the orange bits in the painting. If you could even find that in a rug, it would be wasted on the floor.

I think I definitely prefer the gray curtain with the yellow rug and gray throw of all other options that you posted.

But this last picture made me wonder. The room looks much darker with gray curtains, and much brighter with white ones...

Ceiling treatments can add a great punch to a room. Different paint color, or the same as the bedroom. Or introduce ceiling medallions. They come in many patterns and sizest. Some are simple and some ornate. Drop a chandelier with some bling or one with a shade and your bedroom is immediately transformed!

My two cents: love the gray drapes and throw with yellow rug.

So where are you in the process - waiting for drapes? White or gray? Love the lights above but they are really large for your room. I see your furniture leans a bit to MCM. How about picking up that diamond pattern in a light and new mirror(s) for the dresser? This first one is not cheap but a pair of the second one might be cool.

@decoenthusiaste So what do you think of the wall of drapes behind the headboard? Does it look better to you than having just a shade on the window? If yes, do you agree with just plain gray drape?

The furniture is old, but in very good condition, so we decided to keep it and focus on the rest. I actually hate MCM and tend to finish the rest of the house in Contemporary style.

Love the gray curtains behind the bed! It's dramatic and balances the room. It also gives the room the focal point it needs. The other window can have the shades. I liked a ceiling medallion to draw your eyes up, making the ceiling look higher than it is.

Maybe something to consider is a cowhide rug! There are different shades of grey you can find, but what about off white with metallic gold printed on it? It picks up the gold in the lamps and yellow?! Just a thought.

Hard to say. What color did you say the wall is? On my monitor it looks quite green while the spread background appears gray. I'll look around for you.

Wall color is not green at all. It's Silver Gray by Ben Moore. Actually, in my room it shows more blue than gray.

With printed bedding a softer rug works great. Would you consider a shag in a rich burgundy or navy for a pop of color? The pictures show a shag rug but another shows one with pattern if you change your bedding.

Here is a print coverlet with a textured rug in the same tone as the background. You might consider doing something similar.

I like both rugs. I just have to look up for something a little less expensive. Thank you @decoenthusiaste!

What do you think of the drapes? They're charcoal. Look a little dark, but I'm keeping them.

Rather than buy new furniture, which you mentioned in your first post, I would paint the headboard and night stands a medium glass black. Put a silver tray (easy to find online) on each stand to add some glamour and shine. Love the drape on full wall behind the bed! Great solution! I would try to repurpose the yellow lamps elsewhere in the house, and buy glass bases with more contemporary shades a light gray.

A sisal rug (soft texture) in cream color with black border would ground this room.

I like the dark drapes, roman shade in same color for other window, sisal rug with black border, paint furniture black to ground the room, glass lamps. Try to "blend" colors and textures rather than "match" everything. For bedroom art, use family photos printed in black and white with simple silver frames, same frames for all, but stager the sizes. Buy and hang frames, then select the photos, casual photos are more fun than posed. Less and large is better than small and many. Master bedrooms should have a touch of grown-up glamour and some whimsy. Good start -have fun!

Don't worry about the room being dark - you are going for sophistication for evening use, not daytime use.

I agree. The bed needs space around it so move it to a wall and try to center it as much as possible. Using two different size/shaped night stands can be interesting. Such as a desk on one side. Try to match the heights, however.
