Taxable Square Footage

Our home plan we have chosen has a den without a closet - not a bedroom. Are the taxes on a home determined by the number of beds/baths/square footage total??? We are questioning about removing the den from the plan concerned it will be labeled as another bedroom = higher taxes!!! Not a want! (we live in WI if that helps) Thanks!

It's more about the area you are in and the overall finished square feet of your house than whether there is a closet in a room or not. Usually you can look up neighborhood homes that will have similar square footage and get an idea of what your assessed property taxes will be.

Only your local tax office can answer your question for your situation. It's different state by state, county by county, municipality by municipality.
