Don't paint the trim or the ceiling! One problem is the color of the entry wall- it doesn't seem to match anything else, unless that's my monitor. The dark stripe on the tray ceiling sections are taking away from the cool sophistication you are going for. Take it back to the ceiling color. When you add lighter colors in the space, it will start to pull together. The wall color is only one ingredient in the whole look. See Houzz photos under "navy bedroom" to see how keeping the ceiling brighter, and adding plenty of white in the bedding and furniture, with pops of color in art and accessories, will do the job for you.

The problem with a deep navy blue and white is that it is so heavily ingrained as a coastal style. You may wish to paint your ceiling a pale grey or putty to mute the contrast. (You can go two directions here, ramp up the white and navy which is quite elegant; or you can go for toning down the whites with a putty or sand colour) - two options shown below

the entryway is actually leading to the walk-ins and master bath...I wanted to keep that lighter to maintain the very open look. but maybe I should go ahead and paint the rest. maybe it would also look more sophisticated if I painted the "1st" ceiling portion navy as well (to connect it to the trim)? my vision for the room is contemporary with glam romance in navy with lilac and silver accents...

i think the ceiling looks fab as is. maybe just paint the light wall navy (room looks plenty big enuf without it feeling closed in), and then paint the white portions of the ceiling a light gray like ASV suggested :)
