I am in the same position too, need to make a decision on windows within a week. My contractor's window guy recommended them over plygem. I understand Im not getting a top quality window but just looking for a ok one for a new build.

Stay away from PlyGem! We had them on our last house and the low e glass coating looked sun bleached like freckles all over the windows facing the southern exposure. this time contemplating Wintech or Alliance on our new build. Not really sure which direction we will go in, but definitely not PlyGem

Those 2 brands are just as bad and quite possibly worse then PlyGems.

Are there any good but reasonably priced windows for Louisiana heat and humidity? it seems that all the lumber yards carry crappy brands.

Yeah, pretty much the case for sure. I would look for Marvin dealer and either Elevate (all fiberglass) or their Essentials (wood clad fiberglass) line.

In my area the ” lumber yards” carry Marvin. If you are looking for quality vinyl window I would stay away from the ” lumber yards”. I do not consider box stores lumber yards btw, and i am not familiar with your market

Todd you are correct, The better lumberyards will carry Marvin and some of the better brands. Box stores not so much. And I agree that a box store should not be considered a lumber yard.

I actually mean a lumber yard, and not the blue or orange box stores. This is where you bring your blueprints and they work up your materials list. Since PlyGem, WinTech and Alliance are out of the question, my options are really limited. Another local lumber yard sells Quaker which I read has some issues as well, and another recommended brand WinCore has limited new build selection line with nail fins that does not supply casements or the two colored options. we got a quote for WinTech for over $16000, for 36 two tone windows. I know that two toned windows are more expensive but paying over $350 for a 3030 fixed window is a bit extreme and almost $700 for a casement is crazy. It has been 3 years since out last house where we paid $6000 for PlyGem so maybe i am a bit sticker shocked in comparison. if im going to spend $20k on windows, i’d like to get good quality. Marvin is not in my area and Simonton is owned by Plygem???? I researched many brands, and there are many options for replacements, but not so many for new build. This project will be stressfull for sure.
