A medication called Revolution. About $20 a dose. Put on back of neck... kills mites, fleas, ticks, and several kinds of internal worms. Best thing I've found for ear mites.

The Vet started with a miticide in the ears, then followed with the Advantage which is broad spectrum for fleas/includes for mites. This one went on neck like reg flea treatment. I dosed her again in 30 days with same. I'm thinking might have to travel 100 mi to bigger clinic.

I know very well what she has experienced as I had a night flying moth fly into my ear once & couldn't get it extracted until next morning-- it is awful. I think Sassy's mites should be dead by now, but this particular ear is 99% closed off from the swelling. I have already spent over $300 on her and have no problem paying to get her fixed....if possible. People should not have pets if they can't be as responsible as they'd be with their children.

We are going back to the vet clinic and ask them to refer us somewhere that might help. Thx for all the suggestions.

For the time being, you might use a thick or viscous product like petroleum jelly to suffocate the little demons.

Like us, mites have to have oxygen.

With a severe infestation, I wouldn't count on an initial treatment working, & she may have "debris" (dead disgusting mites) still in there.

For a cat who's extra-susceptible to mites, or one like Sassy who has physical abnormalities that may make it difficult to kill all the mites or to get them out of there, I'd keep her on a regimen of Revolution (didn't know Advantage had changed its formula so that it kills mites), & clean her poor ears regularly.

Yes, "Advantage multi"prevents heart worms, fleas,hookworm, roundworm, and ear mites. I do believe there is debris making her ears itch, since she had mite treatment as well as 2 treatments of the A multi. I tried cleaning her good ear today and soiled 4 quips...the other ear is closed from hematomas deforming it. She is a sweet cat, and delights us talking to the birds outside her watching post. And she is a little "chunk" weighing 10+ lbs tho she is small. I'm so glad she has a home now where she'll be cared for. She is front declawed, and had been allowed to go outside at her previous home. Gives me road rage when I hear "declawed..can be inside or outside cat". Such ignorance should never own an animal at all.

dancingirl_gw, I'm the same as you re-declawing. There is no need for it at all. Haven't people heard of nail clippers, scratching posts, and a water spraybottle as the last resort.

My kitty has "yeasty" ears...I clean hers with q-tips and witch hazel. Might be helpful with the mites, at least once her poor ear is healed a bit.
