Depends upon how much use a space gets. Glass vessel sinks are fine for a powder room, but not practical in a family bath.

Only a powder room - and even then I wouldn't personally want a vessel sink in the powder room. Even powder rooms have to be cleaned and I would have to bring in a bucket of water as a vessel sink is useless for anything but washing hands.

However, I don't like a stainless sink in the bathroom either (or stainless sink anywhere.)

Vessel sinks have no appeal to me at all. I think they will have that "shag Carpet" appeal in a few years.

I wouldn't have either. I LOVE pedestal sinks. Nothing beats them-- they make a room seem larger; they're easy to keep clean; and they look good.

it's the right look for that particular bathroom. needed to be a little splashy (not literally!) and it was the easiest way to do it. an inexpensive vessel conveys more than a drop in, you can cheap a bit on other details. another bathroom in that house has a lovely old fashioned pedestal, what with the beadboard and fresnel lights and blue upper walls, you're at the seaside just like that. no two bathrooms need to say the same thing.

I'd rather have a drop in or under mount. I think most vessel sinks are pretty but impractical, especially the glass ones.

I am dealing with this now. I actually like that sink in the picture. I have a narrow bath and would like to take out my pedestal sink. I have 15 to 16 inches for a vanity. I was looking at trough sinks or vessel sinks. I was afraid they would not be practical. This will be a bath we will us when we get older. Would love to hear more thoughts. thanks

I like the semi-recessed. It is a nice in-between. :-) My family put in an undermount sink and it wasn't installed correctly...water leaked through the seam between the sink and countertop - way not cool. :-S

Drop in is more aesthetically simple, but vessel would add pop to the room

I LIKE vessel sinks in Master Bathrooms. In the past I have designed several large home projects: a tear down remodel, four new builds, and soon to begin another remodel. I have not experienced any issues w/ water splashing beyond the vessel, and in fact I find drop in sinks do have these issues. I believe the height and width of the vessel are important and I find the below type of vessel provides more usable space on the vanity slab.
