Learning to read plans and drawings

We are embarking on the design phase for a remodel and I just got the preliminary sketches, which I like but of course need tweaking. But I struggle to really read and understand the drawings and wonder if anyone has any tips for learning how to "see" better, other than doing it a lot. :)
