I have had white for 20+ years and it has held up well. I put those plastic liners down that I bought in a roll at Costco.

Mine are the birch color.

My cupboards are painted maple. The backs of the doors are also painted but the interior boxes are maple. However I have two cupboards where the doors are glass and the interior boxes of those ones are painted the same colour as the exterior.

Well I could pretty much ditto what blfenton said. Mine are actually maple too.

That's a great point about the glass fronts.

But what about for the rest, is there a preference? When I'm out shopping for cabs should I be wanting one over the other?

Ours our now mostly navy. Some of the newer pull out cabinets I didn't paint and they are raw wood.
