It is shame not to have a frameless shower after all that work, just because of a towel bar. How about an over-the-door towel organizer?

One of the solutions we've used has been to add the towel bar to the fixed portion or the exterior of the glass door. You just need to add a stopper or adjust the swings so that it doesn't hit the wall.

We have a shower with a glass door opening into a towel rod. We made it so that the handle on the door hits the towel rod squarely, so it acts as the stop. Has worked fine for 3 years with no problem. I don't think people would slam a glass door open to make it an issue.

Get rid of the doggone towel bar. A rimless shower us more important.

As others have said, forgo the towel bar! A frameless shower I think is a must for this beautiful shower. Find another solution for your towels.

Robe hooks all the way.

I've seen some very nice barn door style glass doors. Also, we put in a fixed glass panel-- very minimalist-- with just two square nickel bolts, one top and one bottom. We love it. Plenty of room for getting in and out, and works fine. I think hooks work fine, too (as opposed to a towel rod).

Frameless shower doors require constant upkeep if you want them to sparkle. Robe hooks for your towels and a pretty shower curtain arrangement will free you from the squeegee (sp?) and from straightening your towels.

huh? I have frameless and I don't think it requires constant upkeep. It's cleaned with bathroom cleaner and windex every 2 weeks. It looks sparkling to me and lets oh so much more light into the bathroom than otherwise.

I would go for a towel/robe hook, but then I really don't like towel bars.

I feel like a broken record here, because I've posted this so many times. I should just keep a record of what I say about this, so I can just copy and paste in future.

The most work I have ever done in a bathroom has been when I had shower curtains. They are horrible and moldy-- can never get rid of the mold-- and they cut out light when closed, hide your beautiful tile, and are claustrophobic to boot.

Frameless glass -- shower doors or fixed panels-- are THE EASIEST thing in the world to keep sparkling. So easy. I bought a great squeegee at the Container Store-- and the people who put in our glass panel gave us a big bottle of glass cleaner that they make. I take a shower; once done, I simply spray the glass and squeegee. The whole thing, start to finish (excluding my shower!) is something around 20 seconds. That's it. You're done. So so so so easy. And they're beautiful, modern, make the room seem larger, and your tile isn't hidden. We've had ours now for 3 years, and the glass has remained pristine and sparkling. 20 seconds a day -- doesn't take much.

the spritzey stuff is awesome, you never have to scrub grout again as long as you live, too.

we are getting a french door for our shower made by maxx. would a french door leave enough room for a towel bar? or put the towels on hooks instead of bars?

You can get a pivot door with a towel bar/handle that way you may get style and function. May I recommend the Reveal pivot door from MAAX.com it's frameless.

Thanks to everyone for ideas, tips and concerns. I'll research my new options, ask some more questions, then order the frameless door. Really do appreciate your help! Hope to post a photo of the installation soon....

Make sure the door won't hit the toilet. We were lucky and just barely cleared but having the same dilemma with towel bar, even a robe hook stands too far out and the shower door would hit it

I guess I am the only one who hates glass in a shower, and I don't want to clean it every time I take a shower. I like the shower curtain...
