It is definitely possible to move old camellias- if you use the GardenWeb search box at the top of the screen, try typing in the phrase "moving old camellias", and you should get some hits. An earlier reference to a link by Gene Philips has moved, and this is the more current link for that info:

Since you are removing the planter brick by brick, you should have easy access to the camellia roots as they will be elevated! How many are there? Should be a day job, I should think.

I would pre-dig holes for them in the new location before you start to dismantle the bed. You might have to adjust the size of the holes somewhat, but at least you'll be able to move them directly and not let them sit around drying up.

I usually lay the plant and rootball on a large tarp and drag it to the new location. If you can hire someone to do this, all the better!
