Kitchen help

So, I've been in my house almost 7 years.. It's a new build we bought and are original owners..
I've disliked my kitchen from day 1.. I love light, bright spaces and this is anything but.. I'm ready to make this kitchen (my small kitchen) my kitchen for the next 15 years.. The current cabinets are ( and why would anyone ever use this product in a kitchen is beyond me) thermafoil.. I'm looking for either natural wood, ( maple or birch) to keep it natural or paint white(light). Also, is the layout ok or do someone have better layout ideas for me.. I'm going all out on this one.. So budget will be generous.. On the right side of the kitchen is a large pantry and our ( small) mudroom from our garage.. Current paint colour is pale alvacado.. Really like this colour but open for a change. Thanks

Consider glass pantry door (neat pantry or frosted glass) and under cabinet lighting to add light to your room. Should add recessed lighting too. Also wall oven with microwave or double wall oven by the refrigerator. Range top (and microwave drawer style) in island. Island with overhang for counter stools on one or two sides depending on your space. Creating an L shaped counter design taking out the section with stools. I think if you get light and stop facing a wall while cooking you won't hate your kitchen...and cabinets as much? I have white btw and even kept through a little kitchen renovation 2010. No regrets. Sendtogina. I like the idea of adding an island and taking out the peninsula. I'm just unsure it there's actually room in this small space for it? Also, where would you suggest putting the cooktop if I added wall Ovens?

I would knock out wall between kitchen and pantry / mud room and get some professional help in redesign of space and no there is not enough room for an island. at the moment.When starting get a counter depth fridge and make sure you get that before designing cabinet layout as the fridges come in all sorts of sizes. There are great pantry cabinets that are much better use of space than the way you have now.

If you can post actual floor plan including pantry and mud room the ideas may come flooding in.

In a perfect world you would have 3 feet separation between walls/counters and an island. And for workflow you want your refrigerator, sink and range in a triangle. Fwiw, in our Reno we opted for a counter depth refrigerator. Then our boys stayed home --- commuters while in college and it's way too small. So if you have children honestly I cannot recommend the counter depth. I like double ovens bc I like to entertain and host family holidays. The island (with seating) makes folks hang in the kitchen. It's where we live. How many feet from your sink to the pantry door? Less 6 feet = your island measurement (which may not be enough)

If budget is generous I would find the best kitchen designer in your area. Go to a few and have them do plans for you til you find what works best. Agree about kitchen depth fridge although they look the best the storage capacity is lacking.

Thanks for all the comments.. I have measured and from sink to pantry I have 9ft. I'm thinking if I remove the peninsula, extend cabinets along the wall to the sliding doors and add an island running long and not across it may work.??? Do a raised counter for stools on the pantry side of the island. I am thinking of adding a window above where the stove is currently? But what about wall oven and where would I include the cooktop? I agree with the counter fridge, but would not work for this busy family.. I will defiantly be extending cabinets to the ceiling.. Extra storage and less dust.. With that said.. Any other ideas? Help.. I love having others add opinions so I can collaborate ideas.. Thanks

Do you have crawl space or a slab foundation? Assuming no basement.

I have 4 grand kids that stay here all summer and sometimes some of their friends and have never had a problem with storage in my counter depth fridge you just need to find the right one they average less than acubic ft. difference in storage and look soooo much better in a space.

Thanks Patricia Cadwell.. I will look into it. I agree it will look so much better. Also I have a full basement. My house is about 1500sqf, 3 bedrooms and 2 baths.

if you like light and bright, I would encourage you to put a skylight in the kitchen. I assume that your home is a single story.
