Coved ceiling advice

I hope someone can give me ideas and advice. We have a 1950's home with coved ceilings. Ceilings are 7 feet high. I would like to add a strip of molding at the top of the wall them paint everything above the molding white (BM simply white). My husband thinks this would make the ceiling appear lower but everything I have read that this should make our living area appear higher. I have searched photos however all photos with coved ceilings are significantly higher than our 7 feet ceilings. Does anyone have any expertise of advice in regards to coved ceilings?
