Bedroom wall color?

I have a white modern bedroom set and I bought this comforter combo for it, what would be a good color for my walls?

You could go with a very light green, a sunny yellow, a crisp gray -- lots of possibilities, depending on your overall goals...

You can go in many directions. Green, light blue, grey, lavender. Maybe search Houzz for green and bedroom and see what color combinations you find to your liking.

I thought of the light green, but didn't want it to be too much green. Yellow is too loud for my taste, the walls in the room are currently an orange terra cotta and I hate it! The comforter is still in the bag until I get the wall color changed! Thanks for your input!

I would go with a cool gray and then bring it together with an area rug and pillows that incorporate the green and gray. -Erin

This is the color I have now and I don't think it matches with the comforter
  • 11 years ago
And yes the whole room is that color! Too loud for me.

How about gray or a warm yellow. Be careful with a yellow because they can be cold. Have fun!

Wow I would have never thought of blue, yet it does look real nice... Thinking now about the grey and the blue... Guess I'll try both. Should I do the whole room in these colors or just the wall behind the bed?

Could we see photos of the whole room? Size of room, placement of doors, windows, and furniture affects what would look best

yes, i will snap some pictures and post them tonight (i'm at work right now)....it's my guest room. Thank you so much for taking the time to give me ideas, I really appreciate it from ALL of you!

Take a look at Celtic Gray by Behr. I use it all the time and it's fabulous r with green. The color once on the wall will look sky blue but the color is actually a greyed pale teal. Because of the green in the paint it will look good in your space.

I don't understand people painting walls to match a comforter. Someone explain? Shouldn't it be the other way around?
Well that link sucked. But I found a decent enough photo.

I guess my first question would be what is your personality? Are you preppy? traditional? trendy/hip? my initial thought was a baby blue (similar to ASVInterior’s pic) but then also a muted/greyed down lavender or mauve. I’d suggest you layer in more colors as accents beyond wall color.

If set is white, how about flooring color? Art, pillows, etc.? maybe you'd like to think about that since one art piece might change your direction.

White walls say, with accent color from one bed pillow, and buy green lamp base? Maybe a retro clock?

Cool pillow everdebz, and yes for the white walls . Painting a few piece of card stock would help in choosing the colour :)

here's why i'm trying to match the comforter to the walls...and honestly i could just return it and get another one...but i actually had the walls painted that orange/terracotta color above, and the white furniture looked great against that color, but trying to find a comforter for that was close to impossible. About the closest i got was a silver one and it looked dead...besides the fact that the wall color is just too loud for my taste, I like a more traditional look on my walls...so now i'm trying to do it the other way around :-) So far i love the light blue and the grey ideas i've gotten here and will probably go with that, and then if the comforter doesn't look right, it's going back and i'll get another one! thanks!!

Here are the pictures of the room so you can get an idea of the size/color that's there now and the furniture, the wood floors...

the lamps are NOT staying, already ordered the modern ones i want, they are silver and white....this is my guest room. And i will also need pictures and curtains...but i figured once it's painted i'll start working on that.

it also has a small window to the left so the bed which i have no idea why that's there and what type of curtains i'm going to put in that room...all i have are the roman shades on the other 2 windows right now...any ideas on that would also be great....i know...one thing at a time :-)

Great! now could you place the bedspread over the bed ? I 'm certain that your paint colour will work with it ,look at the pictures that I have posted above and in there these is also a bit of terracotta ,just get a couple pillows to compliment and the lamps and perhaps some art for the room . Here is the picture , now imagine :)

OK, i'll give it a shot....i'm back at work right now, so i'll try that tonight. I just think that color is kind of loud, grey sounds so pretty to me. :-) thanks Genevieve.

    Okay,

then go with a very light grey and chrome lamps . Even navy/royal blue and green look fantastic together .

I see that we agree on the navy blue walls so here is an idea photo to consider ,you could paint the whole room navy or just the 1 wall ,the choice is all yours and take a look at those lamps ,I love those for you .

Do you like green? If so, pick a green that complements your bedding. Otherwise, white is always right.

Grey has become so much over used. Go to the paint store & pick up the folder of only different whites. Look through them & pick out four you like & buy paint sample cans of them. Paint them on poster boards. Don't place them around your room until you paint the room with white primer. The terra cotta will influence your eye so will need to be gone first before picking a color for the room.

Please do not use a dark color. You have lovely furniture and with the new bedside lamps (perhaps a mercury glass). You may want to choose the whites on the blue or teal side. You may want to paint before you decide to keep or return the comforter set. Please keep us updated as to what you decide to do. Send us photos after you have primed over the terracotta and after you have your sample boards painted. Then we can give you a more informed opinion.

Textured pillow with soft white or grey bedding? You say it's loud, but with neutral it will blend and not shout?

At least try a grey/white or black/white one which could have one bright pillow on it? See I'm assuming it's a rosy terra cotta and not orangey. Charcoal with it and a matte metal piece above bed, or unique lamps.

I vote grey, cause it's what I did. I bought a comforter that is acid green/grey/black on white that is folded across the bottom of the duvet. Ended up painting the room a deep warm grey with ebony furniture. Did platinum curtains with an acid green trellis pattern. Lots of silver metallic accents. We get compliments on the room all the time.
