Every room can use a pop of yellow.

Thank you!! Any suggestions on pillows and art that would pop yellow?

Two, too many mirrors on the dining wall. since the one in the living is pretty set i would guess, remove the one from the dining room and bring some color in art there, yellows, blues, greens would all be good. try taking the picture over the chair in the corner. and putting over the silver console by the door, and taking the painting there and moving it over to the dining room wall. thus bring some dark frame to the entry side and some light frame to the dining side. Is there a leaf in the table? if so take it out if you can. the rug is too small for the table.

I'd replace the sofa mirror with art. That mirror is a bit too large. Might be fun to hang it vertically in the dining room. Get something you love for art. You might switch the white orchids for yellow ones and use a yellow Gerbera daisy on the mante, sunflowers at the table. I assume they're all artificial, so meh... Maybe yellow orchid art would be better than all yellow fake flowers. A yellow throw would be nice.

i just wonder Deco, some people are just happy with their mirrors...that's what I was thinking. but would agree if you are willing, sub, I would change it too.

i would use a robins egg blue for pillows and I do not like what the mirror is reflecting so would change for a piece of art. lower the art by the chair and a rug with some colour and your lamps are too small and look more like bedroom lamps.

Lower the art on the walls by the brown chair. Yes, go with the blue for accent. Unfortunately your TV is really high but it doesn't look like much can be done about that. It could also be smaller 75% of the width of the fireplace and then it wouldn't look so overwhelming but again that doesn't look like it can be easily remedied.

Thank you all for the suggestions...I will remove the large mirror and look for art for over the sofa and add pop colors with pillows and perhaps a new carpet. Any ideas for art for over the brown chair. Not sure what to do there since there are two walls? The frame pic there now I will remove.

Would you consider TV in that corner instead? Right now it is in the traffic path from the front door and over FP is probably the worst location for TV's health and yours.

We just moved it from that corner spot to over FP.

Art is so subjective. Personally I'd go with more abstract or contemporary art over the sofa. Over the chair, I'd put a large wall clock on one wall and a long piece of art on the wall with the light switch. I would not put something on all three walls. Less is more. Lamps - again depends on your style. I'd go with glass or mirrored lamps with a white shade. One thing that still stands out as a problem is your 3 matching rugs. I'd change one of the large rugs out for something with color (if not both). I'd put just one smaller entry rug by the door. Right now that runner confuses the spaces. It says this is the entry well beyond the entry. It also isn't centered to the door so visually it throws me off.

I like your living room dining room area. It needs your color-do you have a color that shows up a lot in your wardrobe? Look through artwork and find a piece you love.either of these will help you find what your color or colors are. I agree the mirrors are two hard as are many of your decor accents. Color in lamps,pillows,flowers and so forth will soften the look.

It is a bit odd to have the TV and FP smack at the front door, I wish you could move them both to the corner wall! but i get it.

Since I have difficulty with color, would love some direction with art for over the sofa. I just cannot visualize the right colors. I'm thinking contemporary or even abstract.

A couple fabric design solutions that may help you visualize your design goals. We emphasize the sum of the parts, not just a substitution or addition of single items.

I like the space itself, but I feel as though the brown is too heavy. From an economical perspective, I would say to switch out the dining mirror for artwork and add some blue (or other color) using pillows and possibly another rug. If you can afford to do so, I would remove the loveseat and single rocker and replace with chairs/items that are not so dark.

She has many nice abstracts in all different sizes. I love the Yellow ideas especially the sunflowers on the table and the orchids but I would do a lighter yellow not a very deep one.

First of all, you have a great space. Love your area rug and the gray walls. Actually love your colors. Agree you have too much stuff matching but you can fix/tweak that easily. There is too much dark brown wood furniture and too many mirrors in one space. Suggestions:

*Get some slipcovers make for your dining room chairs. I bought a matching dining set many many years ago and ended up having linen slipcovers made more the chairs. You can go to a fabric store and get material for a great price and bring it to a person who does upholstering. It completely transformed our room and made it look custom. This will take care of some of the matching wood in the room.

*Consider painting one of the mirrors in a metallic finish-it will really brighten up your space. There are so many great products out there. You could use a spray paint or Annie Sloan makes a great product-no sanding is required.

*Replace one of the mirrors with a painting to tie your great colors together-grays, browns, creams.

*Last, consider replacing the lamps on the sides of the couch-some that are taller and more modern. White shades would brighten your space up.

Have you thought about putting the fireplace on the current sofa wall, then floating the sofa to face it, creating an entry behind the sofa from the front door?

Just realized that FP is free to move elsewhere, so definitely get it out of the entry. In addition, I would remove the loveseat. Matched sets of big black furniture are very difficult to arrange, and loveseats especially so. I would put the FP on the large wall with art above, chair angled right of it. Move the large sofa under the window with the coffee table and end tables if they'll fit. Take the art and console table to the entry where the FP is now. Put the TV back in the corner. Get larger lamps to hold their own with the large furniture and add a floor lamp by the chair.
