Spider Web

And I still have lots of scraps!!! The first border is a bit wavy, must have been all those bias edges and the piano key border worked out well. It is in the washer now so maybe the borders won't look too bad after drying.

Yay! You got it done! This is the one that gave you fits, am I right? It looks wonderful! I especially like your bluish solid.
How did you decide to make your Piano keys?
I think washing and drying may help the borders, but they don't look bad at all. I think this is a time when stay stitching before adding the 1 st border and again on the piano keys edge before quilting would maybe have helped.
I need to remember this if I ever get back to the Bonnie Hunter Virgina Bound quilt I started.

I have to remember to stay stitch when it is really needed, such as bias edges. That probably would have helped.

And the piano keys were just done adding strip to strip. I decided against the adding machine tape.

Thanks for all the support. Not that this quilt was very difficult but I think once is enough.

Very nice! I love the blue and really like the borders. Approximately, how wide is the blue border? And how wide is the piano key border? The proportions look really good. Besides stay stitching, if you were doing another piano key border, would you do anything differently? I'm planning to do one on my black and white quilt. Mostly, because I like the look, but also because I have so much left over fabric from the peels.

Just curious, what color is the backing?

The blue border was cut at 2 1/2 and the piano keys were 3 1/2. For another PK border, i might be tempted to use the adding machine tape. That would really keep them straight. Or if i had longer strips, I would do strip piecing and then subcut.

The back is a mottled flannel and is the same colour as the blue. Thanks for your comments.

That is just too cool...love the pattern and your scrappy selection of fabrics. The border looks good from my viewpoint. Your quilting design works well with pattern...very nice...congrats!

Theresa, I try to strip piece and subcut whenever I can.....maybe another reason why I am not a a scrappy quilter & PK borders look best scrappy. Your spider web quilt is very inspirational and you should be very happy & proud.

That is a really nice quilt. I have never tried a spider web block but now I may have to try.

That is such a pretty quilt. I think it looks great.

Pretty quilt, Theresa. The blue background really calms the scraps. I would never have thought of that.

Theresa, I really like the background fabric and the piano borders. Usually, the spider webs are too busy for my taste, but yours is very pretty.

Theresa I like how scrappy your quilt is. I especially like the blue stars in between the spiderwebs, I like it is as background color.

    Best to you,

    Sandra
