Huge Fireplace Wall - what to do?

This wall is big and bare! I want to make it beautiful (with a statement) and functional - need shelves/storage in the room. I'm thinking of doing reclaimed wood horizontally up the middle section above fireplace, then replacing the mantle (taking down all of the white) with a chunky rustic beam. Maybe replacing the brick with stone. For the sides, (change paint - maybe white) then add rustic floating shelves to each side and a built-in bench at base on each side (for storage and more seating. This fireplace is almost flush with wall so I'm not sure if having shelving on either side will make it look funny. The wall on right is very tall and wide (20' x 10') and I'm thinking of maybe adding some type of contemporary wainscoting (this that an oxymoron?) up high (white). I'm going for a rustic modern look. Any ideas or suggestions?
